| Do you find it works with most stuff ?
I can't backup most of my software because the copy protection schemes
foil any of the backup utilities I have.
I've got procopy 1.5 and acopy 1.2L
Games such as Laser Squad, Populous, Bloodwych, New Zealand Story
just refuse to be backed up.
Is procopy 1.7 reputed to be able to handle this stuff ???
Jamie.

| Yes, I find that Procopy seems to work with most software disks. On the
last flyer from Procopy, they said version 1.70 would backup Populous. The
guy on the phone said 1.70 would NOT backup Bloodwych. I don't know about
the rest.
But I've found quirks in the recent issues of Procopy. For simple disk
duplication of non-copy protected disks, I generally use an earlier version
of Procopy, such as 1.40 or 1.50.

| I have has some version of Procopy for over three years now (I upgrade about
every other time). I keep older versions around since I have found (see next
paragraph) that sometimes the current version (1.60) hangs but the previous
version can copy the disk.
I bacame the owner (proud ?? I probably don't think so, it just made sense) of
a fast AT compatible machine last January (Headstart-III if you must know).
Having used Procopy on the ST, I got Copy-II/PC to provide kid protection for
the floppys. Copy-II/PC, though supposedly the best, cann't do a whole lot
of stuff (such as LOTUS and a fair number of the games). BUT Procopy, of some
version in my possesion, has been able to copy ANY 3" disk software we have
acquired for the PC, including LOTUS and Managing Your Money which are "we'll
mark disk 1 and then you can copy it" protection schemes.
So, Procopy is doubly Valuable in that I can protect most of my ST investment
(except possibly some of the newer stuff I haven't acquired yet) and as an
added benefit I can protect my PC masters from coffee, coffeecake and
chocolate mild. (Now if I could just do someting about the vents next to the
hard disk, next to the glass of milk, I would be truly data-safe }8-)} )

| It is not public domain. In fact they almost went broke getting 1.6
out the door (they are one or two people) since they had guaranteed
Dungeon Master with that release (they did it).
The address I have is:
ProCo Products
PO Box 665
Chepachet RI 02814
USA
Telephone: (401) 568-8459 or (800) 843-1223
The direct order price is $34.95 (+ $2.00 for overseas)
Visa and Mastercard accepted.
I buy direct from them which gives them the most support though I have
seen some of the mail order houses selling this at $24 at times. (This
wasn't so when I got my original copy 3 years ago).
