613.0. "Network -> PC -> ST" by CESARE::PIOVANO (May be a price to Pay. ( Italy )) Mon Sep 25 1989 09:29

After some days of test, the correct way s here...

How to transfer atari software with DEC station 200-300-350
on 3,5" diskette.

1) Copy atari_st's files from network to your account.
2) Format a 3,5" diskette on PC at 720 Kbytes.

* CAUTION * The diskette MUST BE formatted on PC, because MS-DOS
have some troble to read atari_st formetted disk.
( Obviously, if you have a program which format the
atari_st disk in compatible format with MS-DOS on your
atari... )

3) Set World READABLE & EXECUTABLE the program for atari on your
account ( in second istance, You can use the password to gain
the access to he files )

4) On PC, call the Network File Transfer ( NFT ), simply typing
NFT at MS-DOS prompt.

5) The NFT command to copy from node is :

NFT> copy/block <node>::<device_or_logical>:[<directory>]<file_name> A:
---  ---------- ------  -------------------  ----------- ----------- --
1        2        3            4                 5           6      7

FIELDS:

1_ The NFT program prompt
2_ The NFT copy command with /block qualifier
3_ The NODE from wich You want copy the files ( Check if it is listed
on PC network data_base.
If no, use NCP )
4_ The DEVICE or LOGICAL_NAME on the node
5_ The directory tree
6_ The name of the file to be copied ( are also allowed wildcards )
7_ The destination device on PC ( If it is A, else substitute with
correct disk unit.)

After issuing this command, NFT display an Info message, followed,
after few second, by the ending message.

The medium speed of transfer is at 4,000 bytes per second !

After the copy, BURN IT ( the file transferred ) & ENJOY ( for the
transfer speedy )

If troble when do this procedure, send my a mail, or post here an help
reply.

613.1Don't use /BLOCK!OLDTMR::WALLACEWed Oct 25 1989 14:007
I just used the instructions in .0 with one change. Using the /BLOCK switch
screws up both text files and archive files. I just used the NFT COPY command
with no qualifiers and everything copied perfectly (text, archives and .PRGs).

Sure beats 1200 baud downloads.

613.2NFT COPY TROUBLECESARE::PIOVANOI'm single, but I'm in search...Thu Oct 26 1989 04:5915

The NFT COPY command, used without qualifier, try to determine the use
of /BLOCK or /IMAGE by itself. I've discovered some trouble with large
file transfer using /IMAGE qualifier, not founded with /BLOCK.

Actually, I've not access at Decstation 200 to make some test, because
they are coming out for demo's, but is in my mind try to discover the
cause.

If you can supply by me more info, I work on this problem ASAP.

Ciao.
