612.0. "looking for a tracer/debugger/disassembler" by BERN01::RUGGIERO () Mon Sep 25 1989 05:05

    I am looking for a tracer/debugger/disassembler for the Atari.

    In those good ol' cp/m times I used to have something called TRACE80.
    This was a tracer (as the names states) and disassembler that allowed
    me to dynamically change data to code and vice versa. Even if you
    have a very smart disassembler this is neccessary to do some time.
    The disassembler gave labels and by a prefix you could tell if this
    was code (executable) or a data (nonexecutable) reference.
    Preferably one should be able to save the current state of debugging
    /tracing/disassembling so one can continue the next day.

    Does anyone know about such a thing on the Atari? I'd prefere PD
    or shareware but also pointers to commercial products are welcome.

    thanks

612.2Debugger for Atari ST ==> SoftDesign BUG-68KDIFVUS::THIESSMon Sep 25 1989 07:5714
You should try the tool BUG-68K for the Atari-ST developed by
SoftDesign Mnchen, Germany. It is distributed as an add-on to
Turbo-C for the ST by Borland GmbH Mnchen in combination with
the MAS-68K 68030 Macro Assembler development software, but
may also be purchased separately. Contact SoftDesign by phone
049-89-1234536.

BUG-68K includes a disassembler for all 680x0 processors as well
as watch variables, trace, breakpoints, dump, expressions etc.

612.3DEVPAC-ST is the way to go!MDCRAB::MCLENDONMon Oct 09 1989 17:4019
    Dear Markus,
    	I've tinkered with "loaner" copies of debuggers, and the BEST for
    feature and user-friendliness is:

    			DevPac ST  from MichTron
    			(Who's actually marketing it for HiSoft)

    Yeah, it's $85, but worth it! Plenty of sample programs and modules
    with the ability to trace an accessory while it's initializing! The
    breakpoint and tracing is excellent. If you ever worked with the Atari
    800 MAC-65 stuff, this is of equal or better quality! Admittedly, I
    played with DevPac for a few sessions of trying to shrink simple C
    programs down to size. So, using the -VASM option in MWC (and cleaning
    up ITS mess), I got a great .S file!... THEN I bought it! They deserve
    the effort that went into this one!

    Any questions, contact me direct.
