Is there any software available for copying files from a 3.5" drive to a 5.25" drive which has been formatted with DOS? I recently purchased an IB 5.25 drive & am aware of IB copy for 21.95. Before I purchase it, I wanted to make sure there wasn't some PD program already available. Carl.

Hi carl, Whats wrong with using TOS? I thought that the disk structures were compatible, oh oh, I just thought, is your 5 1/4 40 track?. I dont know whether it will work 80 to 40 track, There is a PD proggy to put an IBM block zero on disks something to do with serial numbers, so that the PC can read them, otherwise you have to format on an PC, to use on the ST. Pat, My 5.25 drive is 40 track, 360k. The problem I'm having is trying to copy files from a TOS disk to the IBM formatted disk. It seems to copy the file, then gives me an error message that drive B is not responding. Carl.

Last night I discovered if I boot up using the utility & formatter disk that was supplied with my IB drive, I can copy my files (one at a time) from the 3.5 TOS disk to my IB 5.25 360k DOS disk without any error. The disk I refer to must be modifying GEM when I boot it. The following is a list of the files on it: Folders: 2 Files: 8 AUTO (folder) FSELV60.PRG RESM.PRG DOCFILES (folder) AUTOSORT.DOC FORMATER.DOC FSELV60.DOC Top level directory: AUTO AUTOSORT.PRG DESKTOP.INF DOCFILES FMT.PRG Carl.
546.4 | You need to slow the step rate | OLDTMR::WALLACE | Tue Aug 08 1989 15:36 | 6
To use the 5.25 disk drive you need to slow the step rate down for drive B:. There are a few PD programs around that will do this for you but it sounds like you already have such a program on your utilities disk (must be RESM.PRG in the auto folder). Ray |
