| hi,
Try note 460.4 if you want second hand.
Also there are dozens in the current "micro mart", prices varying from
the sublime to the ridiculous. Why buy new when you can save 50% STFM's
go from 150 to 200 pounds. If you go the second hand route, try to get
one with a 1M drive, otherwise you'l soon wish you had, and you will
have to fit an upgrade drive 70 notes or so.
If you really want new stock, then buy the ST mags and phone a few
boxshifters, the discounts are always changing. Watch out for the zero
stock merchants, ie they take your money and then keep you waiting. You
can get next day delivery from all reputable box shifters though.
If you can afford it why not look at the new 1M MEGA style machine. Its
got a lot of potential, and it comes with a lot of goodies.
Regards

| I agree with PK re buying from a box-shifter (ensure they have stock
before ordering). They are *much* cheaper than the High-St store.
Even amongst box-shifters the disparity in prices is quite surprising.
I have had two problems with them - there was no blitter fitted in my
Mega-2, and there was a startup problem. They sent on the blitter OK
and offered to take the machine back for the second problem. This would
have taken several weeks which I could not afford, so I got it fixed
locally (cost 50 !). When I bought my first 1040 several years ago,
the disk drive packed up after a month. The box-shifter replaced it
within 10 days.
Check out one of the ST mags - there are lots of such dealers.
I would advise against any 2-hand deal. The problem here is
upgradability. Some of the older 520's (and 1040's) will be difficult
to upgrade re TOS and memory. Also, meg will almost certainly limit
you; indeed some applications will not run at all. If you intend to use
the machine for some time, then PK's recco of a Mega machine is
definitely the way to go.

| You don't have to go very far for a new one. 16 bit Centre in Harrogate
can supply either the Special pack or a basic machine for a price
as cheap as anywhere else I have found. I have found their service
to be helpful and reliable. (Many stores never have a stock in)
If you wnat to know how to get call me on extension 2265.

What are the goodies avalaible on the new 1 meg machine..?

I would prefer the detachable keyboard. What lesl would I gain.
Anyone heard anymore about STacey...

| Hi Paul,
Quote from ad by DIGICOM in June ST USER:

Regarding the Stacey, it is being launched in Holland about now. the

follow a cursor if you move it quick!
Cheers
