467.0. "Where can I find POPULOUS? " by BIGELO::PETERS (Don Peters, CTS1-2/H6, 287-3742) Fri May 05 1989 14:40

I've just read replies 131.33 and 131.34 on the new POPULOUS game, and it
sounds like the kind of game I'd like to own. But I just finished calling
about four mail order houses here in the states, and no one has even HEARD
of the game! Has anyone located a source for this game in the states?

    Hi Don,
I will give the mail order company where I purchased Populous a call
tomorrow Sat and ask if they do export sales with plastic. POPulous was
15.21 pounds (without UK tax VAT). I will mail you a couple of reviews
in the internal mail. Populous got straight 10/10's for all aspects,
the first game Ive seen to get this !!

If you cant wait try 44 705 661332 The shop is COMPUTCHOICE Portsmouth,
I got a next day delivery for my copy, ordered by phone with credit
    card.

467.2Its a long way to oorder, BUT you can!UKCSSE::KEANEMon May 08 1989 06:5012
    Hi, Re my previous.

I spoke to the software shop. The guy will be pleased to deal with you.
He will take Visa and Mastercard. He has to add 1.50 pound handling and
postage and he cannot strip out the VAT tax. So Populous will cost
    you:-
    		17.49 plus 1.50 = 18.99 (pound) Times 1.7 = 32.3 dollars.
(approx). Obvisiouly it all depends on the curernt exchange rate.

    Cheers

Pat K,

Thanks for the info! After finding that EA Brown also didn't have Populous, I
called the number you gave me. I had to listen carefully since the phone
quality was a bit muffled and I wasn't used to the British accent . :-)
But the fellow was very curteous and said my order would go out shortly. Its
my first order ever for software from another country.

Also, many, many thanks for the several magazine articles reviewing Populous!
I plan to demo it at both our Nashua area and Acton-Boxboro area Atari user
clubs, since I'm a member of both. I'll bring the articles with me to pass
around too.

My son, an avid video games player, is also very interested in the game. He
is especially interested in the fact that the games exists for the Amiga and
the ST, and that two can play via modem hookup. His friend, who has an Amiga,
is also an avid gamer, and I imagine they will spend hours on the phone now.
(Hmmm, that might not be so good for the rest of us in the house who want to
use the phone. :-) )
467.4A source in the USABIGELO::PETERSDon Peters, CTS1-2/H6, 287-3742Thu May 18 1989 17:0828
My face is red.

Last nite I presided over our Nashua Area ST Atari User's Club. I described
the Populous game and all the good reviews it got. I then mentioned that I had
called about 5 ST software dealers around the USA, and none had ever heard of
the game. So, anxious to get it, I ordered it via charge card from the UK.
Just after finishing my tale of happiness and woe, the part-owner of the
computer store we were meeting in walked over to his shelf, picked up a
copy of the game, and tossed it in my lap! I tried everyplace but my own
virtual "back yard"!

Well, his single copy got snatched up due to my sales pitch, but he said he
could have more in days from his distributor, who regularly sends him the
best European software. The cost was $40. When I asked about ordering, he
said he would accept phone orders and payment via charge card. If you are
as anxious as I was, you might want to call him, at:

   Charlie Kotsaftis
   White Mountain Computer Co.
   417 Amherst Street
   Nashua, NH 03063

   (603) 889-0800

P.S.

I had considered contacting them first, but I thought a "big outfit" like
EA Brown, etc, would be much more likely to have it. How wrong I was.
