458.0. "Fonts for Degas Elite?" by KERNEL::BARTLEY () Thu Apr 27 1989 12:59

    Is there a public source of fonts for Degas Elite? If so, how
    do I install them?

    Thanks.

    DEGAS Elite uses GEMDOS for graphic device support. There are lots
    of GDOS fonts in the Public Domain. GEnie has them, the ABACUS library
    has them. There is a convertor program with DEGAS Elite which will
    take old DEGAS fonts and make them GDOS font files.

    Modifying the ASSIGN.SYS file is the key to installation. You might
    have to modify the Font files to avoid FONT ID duplication.

    Once you have the font files and an appropriate ASSIGN.SYS file
    you select the new fonts by double-clicking in the font window.
    (See previous note in this file - I've forgotten the number already)

458.2Fonts for the MemoryUKCSSE::KEANEFri Apr 28 1989 04:2821
    Hello

    re .1

    As an avid user of GDOS !, I am interested in aquiring extra Fonts.
    Unfortunately I have no access to GENIE or ABACUS. Has anyone any
    public domain GDOS fonts on the net, or would be willing to make
    available for a time. I am especially interested in high res screen
    fonts and the matching printer fonts (24 pin) 150 DPI or greater. I
    have already purchased the EASYDRAW 24 pin additional font package and
    was very disappointed, as the package only contained Swiss and Times in
    a few point sizes, and a LQ800.SYS driver, although I was told it had
    a NEC driver.

    On a slightly different topic, I see that there are rumours that ATARI
    are going to produce a package of scalable OUTLINE fonts that will run
    on GDOS. Has anyone heard anything more definate on this ??

    Regards

    Pat Keane.
458.3Access to ABACUS libraryLEDDEV::WALLACEFri Apr 28 1989 12:2825
    Attached is a list of a few font related entries in the ABACUS library.
    Let me know which (if any) of these are of interest to you and we
    can either exchange floppies or I can upload them to the VAX depending
    on what all you want.

    What I've heard about the scaleable outline fonts is that the support
    is being added to GDOS. Meaning you'll need to get a new version
    of GDOS (and new fonts) when it comes out.

    Are you aware that there is a product called "Fontz!" which will
    convert Macintosh and Amiga fonts into GDOS format?

    RE .3 and .4

    Thanks for the info.

    I saw a survey of FONT editors in the UK in which FONTZ was reviewed
    against JackFont and FONTPLUS I bought the Fontplus utility. Guess
    what it wont do!!!

    Re your kind offer regarding the A.B.A.C.U.S. disks, do you know if any
    of the fonts are 24 pin printer fonts?. I have the basic SWISS and
    TIMES which I purchased as an EASYDRAW upgrade, I am looking for some
    exotica !!

    The other night I sat down to use FONTPLUS to modify up a printer font
    to increase the DPI, after three hours I had edited the lower case a.
    At this rate the Atari will have crumbled into dust, and we will all be
    using wristwatch sized voice actuated processors, before I finish a
    font! It also severly limits the vocabulary I can use, aaaaaaa .....

    Cheers

458.6"PP fonts please"MOVIES::FORSTERTue May 02 1989 12:289
    Ray,

    please could you upload the Publishing Partner fonts. I don't
    believe these are GDOS, but are some sort of outline font.

    Thanks.

    Dave.

458.7I dunno, I just work here :-)LEDDEV::WALLACETue May 02 1989 14:385
    Sorry I don't know anything more about these fonts than what the
    description says. I don't have Degas Elite or Publishing Partner
    to try them on.

458.8The Fonts are now onlineLEDDEV::WALLACEWed May 03 1989 13:1427
    Some of the font files I listed in .3 are now available from,
    	LEDDEV::DISK$USER9:[WALLACE.PUBLIC.ST]
    The files are,
    	FONTS.ARC
    	FONTCONV.ARC
    	FONTEDIT.ARC
    	PP_FONTS.ARC

    For the PP_FONTS on the library disk take up almost a whole SS disk
    so I chose to only include one font in the archive I uploaded. The
    font in the ARC is BROADWAY and includes .FNT (hi rez screen font)
    and .PFT (printer font). I won't list all of the fonts on the disk
    but I will list all of the ones that include BOTH the screen font
    and the printer font,
    	WILKES		(hi rez and printer)
    	COLUMBIA	(hi rez and printer)
    	HUDSON (high rez, med rez, and printer)
    	SATURN (high rez, med rez, and printer)
    	UNIV_RMN	(high rez, med rez, and printer) This is suppose
    			to be the same style as other ROMAN fonts but
    			with "nicer curves".

    If you are interested in the full PP_FONTS disk or the FONTEDIT
    disk (this another that fills a SS floppy) send me MAIL and we'll
    work something out.
