| I have a 1080i and while I don't have those programs, I've found
the printer to be generally quite good. But if you go through the
book, there are _scads_ of escape sequences, some of which seem
very weird, and which may impact graphics. The 1080i wants to be
compatible with IBM graphics too, and has escape sequences to select
what's what. So it's probably worth the effort to "play with it"
for a while!
(The WordPerverse upgrade 8/1/88 redid the printer drivers, trading
one set of bugs for another... debugging it made me more familiar
with the printer than I wanted to be!)

| When doing a screen dump to the 1080i or 1091i you need to use the
controll panel (or equivelent) to set the printer parameters to
be 960 dots per line instead of 1280 (the default I think) and then
save the desktop (so it will be set right every time you turn on
the ST). If you have it set for 1280 then a screen dump will cut
off the right half of the screen.
I don't have Publisher or Degas and I don't have any intelligent
guesses for those problems.

| An odd suggestion follows:
Did you ever see it working properly. I saw, and still expect to
see, hardware coming out of the box, WITH hardware problems.
Hopefully its not that bad ...

This weekend I stopped at the Bit Bucket in West Newton for
some things. I talked to one of the salesmen there about the problem.
His advice was to check the cable, make sure I had the printer
accessory set right, etc.
I had checked all of these things before, but I decided to
try EVERYTHING over again.
And voila! I swore I had tried all dip switch settings, but
I set the 7/8 bit to 7 and IT WORKED!!!
Of course I feel like an idiot, since I had tried every
switch setting in every combination, and now it works. Who knows?
Now, I must say, Publisher ST is a fantastic program. Anyone
interested in DTP should check it out. Using this cheapo printer
I can produce some incredible results. A friend of mine has a Deskjet,
and said the quality (especially on small text) was unbelievable.
