305.1 | Solved | PILOU::ANDERSEN | Deallocating my spare time to free | Fri Nov 18 1988 05:49 | 9 |
| Thanks to the network, I've got an answer to my problems.
If anybody interested, there's a notesfile on LOOP::MORIA, containing
help, "spoilers", hack's etc..
Since the ST's moria is a port, there might be some differences
to the original VAX game, but I find it worth consulting/reading.
Cheers

305.3 | I've got it on-line | PRNSYS::LOMICKAJ | Jeffrey A. Lomicka | Thu Apr 12 1990 11:44 | 6 |
| PRNSYS::DUA2:[LOMICKAJ.HOBBY.ST]MORIABIN.ARC,MORIATXT.ARC
Empty them both into the same folder, and invoke "moria." from a shell,
such as gulam, or rename it moria.ttp. I ran it from the Mark Williams
shell and it seemed to work fine.

305.4 | Great, but ..... | RUTILE::BISHOP | | Thu Apr 12 1990 12:06 | 13 |
| Jeff,
Thanks for that, but i really wanted some great helpful person to
put it onto disk and send it to me. Please remember that i have
no de-arcing programs, so i am looking for a 'running' version.
(There is absoultely no way of getting it to my ST at the moment
because i'm in France and the ST is in the UK).
As i said before i will gladly pay for any postage and disk costs.
Regards,
Lewis.

| If nobody on your side of the pond will do this for you, let me know
and I'll do it from stateside.

| Well Jeff,
It seems like no one 'on my side of the pond' is willing to do it.
Are you still ok with doing it?
If so want do you want, my mail address at work, or just mailstop?
Thanks in advance,
Lewis.

305.7 | How to... | SNOC02::WILEYROBIN | The Bear | Wed Apr 25 1990 21:57 | 18 |
| Jeff,
If you have access to a DECstation PC (or any other clone with a 3.5"
diskette drive) attached to the net, you can copy Atari files onto it
using normal MS-DOS commands, and the Atari will read them OK. That's
how I got my copy of Moria, which leads me to my next question...
Anybody,
I now have Moria on a diskette that my Atari can understand. I don't
understand this stuff about 'shells' - in the past, I have just copied
ST games off the net which have a '.PRG' suffix, pointed to them with
the mouse, 'click', and away it goes!
How can I run this version in that way?

305.8 | Yes, a shell is needed | VINO::OCONNOR | Proud owner of a Ferrari F-40 | Thu Apr 26 1990 12:23 | 9 |
| Hi,
Moria is designed to be run out of a command shell. There are several
good PD command shells floating around of the EASYNET. One of the best
examples is GULAM. Which I don't happen to have a copy of on my
accounts right now, but I'm sure you can find it elsewhere.

| The Moria disk that I sent to Mr. Bishop works fine if you just launch
MORIA.TOS (renamed from MORIA.) from the floppy disk. This might be
because I launched it from NEODESK which does let you set environment
variables, but I think it will work anyway.
I haven't tried read/writing with DECstations yet, but since I get
1000bytes/sec with Whack/Stransf to the Stacy, I just copy the files
that way.

305.11 | Lockup! | SNOC02::WILEYROBIN | The Bear | Mon Apr 30 1990 21:43 | 9 |
| Re .3:
I renamed MORIA to MORIA.TTP, and ran it OK for about 2 minutes, at
which point the cursor disappeared, and the system locked up. After
resetting, the same thing happens consistently. I am not using a shell
of any kind.
What's wrong?
-Robin.

305.12 | It works for me | PRNSYS::LOMICKAJ | Jeffrey A. Lomicka | Tue May 01 1990 11:15 | 2 |
| Did you dearc both MORIATXT.ARC and MORIABIN.ARC into the same folder?
It needs some of the MORIATXT files, like MANIFEST and HIGHSCOR.ES to run.
|
305.13 | Thanks... | SNOC02::WILEYROBIN | The Bear | Tue May 01 1990 22:51 | 5 |
| Jeff,
Thanks for the tip - I did not bother putting MANIFEST on my disk, as I
thought it was just a list of files. Also, I now have a copy of GULAM,
so I'll try these this evening, and see how it performs.

305.14 | Success! | SNOC02::WILEYROBIN | The Bear | Wed May 02 1990 21:10 | 13 |
| OK, now I'm confused... I put all of the MORIATXT.ARC and MORIABIN.ARC
contents onto a single disk, fired up the ST, opened the disk, pointed
to the file MORIA, click on the mouse, and away it went! I did not
have to rename it .TTP or .TOS or anything else. Why were people
earlier in this topic suggesting that it needs renaming?
Also, just for fun, I loaded GULAM, and at the prompt tried typing
'moria', 'run moria', 'load moria', etc, but always got the message
saying something like "File not found" or "Illegal command" etc.
Also, I have seen mention of using Wizard Mode, by using the name
GANDALF etc. Where and how is this invoked?
