I just went through this exercise two weeks ago... The cheapest 256K DRAMS that I found were at Solid State Sales in Cambridge Mass. They are a division of Eli Heffron, seller of computer junk - mostly used DEC stuff. The price was $11 each for Sanyo 150ns chips. The chips did not appear to be used. They will do mail order.

Buy a COMputer Shopper and look through it... I've heard that one should use 120ns. All the 1040s I've seen used 120s as did my 520. (Or was that only for > 1 meg upgrades?) Chad

I'm almost positive the factory-supplied rams in my 520 are 150s.

The first meg in my 520stfm is 120ns, but I used 150ns when I upgraded to 1meg. So far, I haven't noticed any problems with it (after six months), but who knows what the future will hold? --Ed |
