260.0. "Game and Memory Questions" by KERNEL::FLOWERS (Hero of the Green Screen...) Fri Oct 07 1988 08:32

    Hello all,

Yup, its me again with a few more questions...The first two
are regarding games, firstly Hitch Hikers Guide, which is probably
the funniest text adventure I have ever played, however I am stuck
in the Heart of Gold, I have plugged the spare improbability drive
in and know just can't think what to do next. Any blatant hints
will be gratefully recieved. Secondly, I have borrowed Sublogics
Flight Sim from a friend of mine who has gone on holiday....but
he didn't leave me the bl**dy instructions. Once again any info
on where the rudder controls are and how to use all the radar/radio
    widgets would be great.

Here is one for all you technical guru's, as I spend a fair
amount of time using art packages, more memory would be extremely
useful, upgrading from 1/2 to 1 meg is relatively easy but I believe
you can take the ST up to 4 meg. How do you do this (preferably
in a homebrew way as I am a cheapskate!) what chips etc. are needed??

    Thanks in advance,

    Jason.

260.1HHGttG Hints coming up.ERIC::WILLIAMSILeeds UniversityFri Oct 07 1988 09:3050
Beware. What follows is a spoiler for Hitchhiker's. You have been
    warned....

Please note that I am writting this from memory. I last played (and
completed) HHGttG on an IBM PC (!!!) a year or so ago, so take the
following as a rough guideline and NOT a guaranteed solution to
    the next bit.

When you say you have plugged in the drive, I assume you mean you
have attached it to the console. You should not do this at this
point in the game, so unplug it. You must get the cup of ATS (Advanced
Tea Subsititute) from the dispenser machine and then you dangle
the long dangly bit from the drive into the ATS. This will mean
that the drive is now functional (I think this is all you need to
do, this is one of the not guaranteed bits :-).

Once the drive is working, switch the switch on the drive. This
will transfer you to one of a number of random locations, each of
which is only a few "rooms" in size. Explore each of these and get
the objects you will find there. Most of the have a purpose and
an object or objects you must collect. Each has a (sometimes disguised)
exit which will get you back to the entry to the Heart Of Gold.
There is a lot of work to do figuring out how to complete each of
these scenarios, so keep at it. It took me ages to get through the
    Bugblatter Beast of Traal room.

Hope some of this is useful, a lot of what is coming up is *very*
    funny. I loved this game.
