If I remember right, I've read somewhere, that there will be a
german (european?) version only. This Turbo-C is originally not
from Borland but it's an authorized version from their german
distributor. Their name is Heimsoeth, I think (correct me if
it's wrong). In the mag they wrote that Borland was not interested
in a Turbo-C for the ST.

.1 is correct, turbo c is available in germany already, but borland
has had no interest in producing it in the USA. There have been
several notes in the atari usenet postings explaining how it has
been shown at the atari shows in germany, and that it could be
    purchased.

220.3TURBO-C: First ImpressionPEARS::BOEHMIrren ist mnnlichThu Sep 08 1988 16:3538
I have it. Received it a week ago. It's the official released version.
I played with it a bit, but not very seriously (not yet).

It's very fast, even the editor, which uses GEM-windows obviously.
There is a GEM-environment (File, Editor, Compiler, Project, Options)
similar to the MS-DOS Turbo-C (similar, not identical!). And there
is a command line driven compiler (just as in MS-DOS Turbo-C). The
editor is not! nearly as powerfull as SEDT, but useful. The editor
works together with the compiler (error in a separate window, click
on an error line puts you to the corresponding source line). You
can have more than 4 window open! Very handy.

The libraries consists of the following parts: Standard (PC-DOS
Turbo-C like routines), TOS (GEMDOS, XBIOS, BIOS), GEM (AES, VDI).

Dokumentation: 1 Book ca. 650 pages (german).

The Assembler and the Assembler!-Source-Level debugger will come
later this year. There is no RSC-Editor (like in MWC). There are
plans for a source level debugger in the future. The Assembler supports
    (among others) 68000, 68020, 68030 and 68881.

This is the second best C development package for the ST, in my
opinion. The best is still MWC! But the question is, how long.

The price is 191,52 DM (Tax 23,52 DM) for the C-Compiler and environment
and 282,72 DM (incl. Tax) for the Compiler and the Assembler and Debugger.
The above mentioned 150 DM for the Compiler was a special price
during the Atari fair in Duesseldorf.

Btw. the Copyright is by Borland! (as you can see the about box in
    the DESK menu)

    Regards. / Hilmar.

I am going to Germany in January (jan 15 - feb 5 in Germany 2/3 of that time)
and will probably get myself this package. I am willing to pick it up for
DECcies who pay me for it first.

for the germans, question on where, prices, etc.:

Ich bin in Januar bei Euch und kaufe mir gerne Turbo-C. Wo in Frankfurt,

berhaupt?

Funktioniert TC mit TOS 1.4?
   " " " " USA TOS?

Vielen Dank.

220.5Welcome to GermanyMUDIS3::THIESSTue Oct 24 1989 07:0728
Hi Chad,

you can purchase Turbo-C and the Assembler/Machine Debugger package
(MAS/BUG) in Munich directly at Heimsoeth, the German Borland
distributor. They have recently changed their name to "Borland GmbH".
Address is Lindwurmstr. 88, 8000 Mnchen 2, phone (089) - 720 10 - 0.

You should also try all the electronic stores in Munich's Schiller-
strasse to find the cheapest vendor.

Another possibility which is probably cheaper is by mail order from
small companies somewhere in small cities.

The official price is DM 228,-- for TC and DM 342,-- for TC plus
MAS/BUG. You can sign an offical export form to save German VAT tax
which is 14%. Exchange rate is currently 1.90 DM for 1 US$.

The current version of Turbo-C is 1.1 and it likes TOS 1.4 as well
as USA-TOS.

I've been a member of the development team for three years at
SoftDesign in Munich, who originally developed TC and MAS/BUG. I
invite you to give me a call when you arrive in Munich, my phone is
(089) - 18 09 90. I can help you buy your software packages.
