209.0. "NX-10 Printer Problem..Help!!" by CSOADM::MORRIS () Fri Aug 26 1988 01:29

    HELP!!!!!!

    I am having problems getting my Star NX-10 printer to work with
    my 1040 ST. The printer works fine with my 800XL connected to a
    PR connection but it does strange things connected to the 1040 ST.
    The printer will print part of the first line, then do a form feed
    and print part of the next line with words at different character
    sizes. It will contiue to do this through the rest of the document.

    This is the first time that I have connected a printer to my ST.
    The printer cable is a standard 25M-36M parallel printer cable.
    (I cold checked the pin to pin connections and compared them with
    the Atari manual and the printer manual and they were ok except
    for pin 18 which is connected to ext gnd on the printer. should
    work.)..... The printer switch settings are as follows:
    1-1...ON    (page length 11"=ON, 12"=Off)
    1-2...ON    (draft char=ON, NLQ=OFF)
    1-3...ON    (Normal zero=ON, Slashed zero=OFF)
    1-4...ON    (No bot margin=ON, 1" bot margin=OFF)
    1-5...Off (Paper out detected=ON, Paper out not detected=OFF)
    1-6...ON    (Set standard mode=ON, Set IBM mode=OFF)
    1-7...ON    (Char set #1=ON, Char set #2=OFF)
    1-8...OFF (LF must be fm host=ON, Auto LF with CR=OFF)
                    I've tried this switch in both positions, no luck

    2-1 to 2-4...ON

    2-1     (Ignore download characters=ON, Enable download Char=OFF
    2-2 to 2-3 set up the char set All ON select USA.

    Iam using Word Writer ST with the Star.cfg driver and have tried
    the Epson.cfg Is there another printer driver I should use or are
    the switch settings wrong? If anyone has a similar setup and can
    shed some light on my problem it would be appreciated.

    Thanks......Mark Morris

209.1Recycle after changing DIP?VINO::BHAMILTONBuzz HamiltonFri Aug 26 1988 08:235
    When you say you've tried the AUTO-LF switch in both positions...
    Be sure that you power off the printer after setting the DIP switches,
    otherwise changing them has no effect. At least that's the way it
    is with my STAR SG10.

209.2Check the parity settingTEA::PETERSDon Peters, CTS1-2/H6, 287-3742Sun Aug 28 1988 00:135
    I wonder if it could have something to do with parity. If parity
    on the ST is on, set it off. If parity is the problem, possibly
    the parity bit is enabling the upper 128 character set, which may
    be initialized to large characters on your printer.

    Iam not sure what you mean about parity regarding the printer. I
    have installed the printer using the desktop selecting the dot matrix
    options. I wrote a short basic program to print all the characters
    and all I get is a printer bell,two line feeds, and then a form
    feed. I know the printer works ok because I can use it on my
     800XL no problem. The problem has something to do with my printer
    driver or the desktop installation. I'll keep pluging away,and any
    suggestion are appreciated.
