193.0. "Desktop Colour" by KERNEL::FLOWERS (Hero of the Green Screen...) Thu Aug 11 1988 10:26

    	Hello all,

No I haven't been playing with sector editors again,
this time I require some assistance in a really odd problem I am
    having.

Problem : On my (new) system disk I have 6 folders containing
some useful bits and pieces, in the auto folder I have a PD prog
called SCACHE.prg and in my main directory I have a desktop.inf
and a .ACC command line interpreter and a .ACC editor.
The problem arises when I boot from another disk with control.acc
on it, if I set the colour of the screen and then save the desktop.inf
on my *system disk* when I then boot from the system disk (warmboot)
the desktop always comes up in that horrible green and not in the
colour I saved. I know it is possible to save the colour as I have
done it before (but I trashed the disk!!). I have tried removing
the SCACHE.PRG and the .ACC but to no avail.

    HELP!!!!!!!!

    Jason.

Some of the desktop settings are actuall read from DESKTOP.INF by
CONTROL.ACC at boot time. If you don't have CONTROL.ACC, or equivalent,
you don't get these attributes set. Color may be one of these. There
was a program in a recent COMPUTE!'s ATARI-ST disk magazine that would
perform these settings without burning a desk accessory slot.

    Hiya Jeff,

I had thought of that but in my previous system disk I didn't
have control.acc ( who uses it ?? ) and the coluour was set fine.

Did you possibly have some other DA (".ACC") on your old system
disk that is not on your new system disk? There are other DA's that
    read DESKTOP.INF besides CONTROLL.ACC.

    Hey!! You might have it,

What is the chance of the PD ram disk SI_RAM reading the
desktop.inf?? I reckon it must to get the drive icon details!!!

Do you think this could be it???

    jason.

SI_RAM does a fair bit of stuff so would guess YES, but I don't
    know for sure.
