191.0. "File-exchange: Aladin <-> ST ?" by HAN::KUNTZE (Matthias Kuntze SWAS Hannover Projektzentrum) Wed Aug 10 1988 03:57

    Hi,
    does any of You know about a program to read and write files to/from
    the Aladin-Disk into normal ST-File format as VMS EXCHANGE does with
    RT11 and Files11 file format?
    When using PC-ditto there is no problem working with a PC-program,
    producing a file and continue to work with it on the ST. Is this
    possible for Aladin files too?

    Thanks
    Matthias

191.1you need alot of infoBERN01::RUGGIEROWed Aug 10 1988 11:4812
    Well, the physical diskformat is the same on Aladin and TOS but
    the logical is not! (MSDOS and PCDITTO have the same LOGICAL
    diskstructure as TOS, so there is no problem to read each others
    disk).
    If you want to read Aladin disks under TOS, you must do diskIO via
    bios and xbios functions on track/sector level and sort the things
    out by yourself. So this means that you have to know exactly the
    LOGICAL diskstructure of a Mac disk/Aladin disk. Perhaps someone
    can provide us with this information. If I get the info and find
    the time, maybe I'll write a program that can do such transfers...

191.2Maybe use Sac utilities?DNTVAX::MESSENGERAn Index of MetalsWed Aug 10 1988 13:454
    Magic Sac has 2 different Sac <-> GEM exchange utilities. If Aladin
    uses the same disk format as Magic Sac, these utils could work...

191.3Version 2.01 has it, I think...UTROP1::JONG_MARCThu Aug 11 1988 03:4814

    The most recent version of Aladin has some utilities for file exchange.

    For example, if you have a double sided disk drive, you may use
    one side of a disk as an Aladin/Mac side while the other side may
    be used a GEM side. Furthermore, I believe Aladin V2.01 includes
    file exchange utilities.

    Then there's the Aladin public domain software. I'll have a look
    at it and try to find what you're looking for.
