171.1 | Anybody home? | IJSAPL::KLERK | Theo de Klerk | Tue Jan 10 1989 14:28 | 7 |
| Yes, where is the latest and greatest?
The last one I found mentioned in USENET was 1.03.04.05 of 121887, but
the one found in a binary sent file (and in IJSAPL::PSQ:[PUBLIC.SOURCES.ATARI])
is Gulam 1.00.00.02 of 110287.

| The version 1.02.03.04.05 (what system is behind this numbering?)
came in on the USENET mails recently. For some time, you can find it
in ijsapl::psq:[public.sources.atari]gulam*.arc.
Other locations mentioned in note 9.

171.3 | What does GULAM offer? | LDP::WEAVER | Laboratory Data Products/Science | Mon Jan 23 1989 20:00 | 11 |
| Can anyone give a quick synopsis of GULAM? Will MWC work with it?
I have been using msh all this time, but everytime I hear people
talk about GULAM it sounds like I am missing something. I guess
the questions are:
1) Is it compatable with MWC?
2) What utilites does it provide (and can I use MWC utilities).
3) Does it have DCL style command recall? (Does any shell?)
Thanks,
-Dave

I don't know MWC.

It's UNIX-like, you have a built-in microemacs editor (I use SEDT),
things like grep, environment variables, symbols,...
> 3) Does it have DCL style command recall? (Does any shell?)
YES!!!
I like GULAM and I use it very often.

| > Is it compatible with MWC?
From my experience it is NOT. The environment setting in MWC is not
used/copied by Gulam and vice versa.
The latest Gulam that came in my friend tried yesterday and appears
worse than the previous version (i.e. other bugs keep bugging).
The previous version was fine, but had to be started from the desktop.
I'm currently using ST-DCL (a german speaking flavour of DCL> ) which
is slower than Gulam in certain aspects, but a lot more familiar
to me. Now for ST-LSEDIT and a COMPILE/REVIEW for MWC...

171.6 | It came as part of the microemacs 3.9e kit | PRNSYS::LOMICKAJ | Jeff Lomicka | Tue Jan 24 1989 10:10 | 4 |
| Is mwc's "cc -A a" a reasonable approximation of COMPILE/REVIEW? I have
a package for Microemacs 3.9e or 3.9n that interprets the -A stuff quite
well.

| Yes, I think it does nicely. It's just that I'm sort of addicted to VMS
style working...

I don't know of such a .G file, but there is a little program around
which patches the key definition table inside GULAM.PRG.

one? There must be some Gulam users in the UK...

171.11 | Gulam patched for german-keyboard | HAN::KUNTZE | Matthias Kuntze SWAS Hannover Projektzentrum | Thu Feb 02 1989 05:22 | 14 |
| I have no patch program but I patched gulm to be used with a german
keyboard. I used the contents of uniterms keyedit.prg and patched
it into gulam.prg. This solves the y-z-key problem but not that
with german umlauts. So I patched the key-definition tables too
to have beeing autoinsert (without typing ^Q in front). As
I'm not very familiar with emacs and the ^X fingering, I modified
the keypad layout too. The shift-key works like a gold-key. You
can find a description and the patched program in
HAN01::USERDISK1:[KUNTZE.EASYNET.ST]GULAMF.ARC and GULAMG.ARC
Perhaps it helps you.

| Hi All,
I'm enjoy using GULAM Version 405 but i have a German
Key Board.
What must be done to patch the Key-bindings or does
a Version (for 405) with the patch already exists?

Try 171.11 (its a patched beta-version 110287)
Can anybody tell me the difference between this old (110287) and the
new 405 version? I tried both, found no difference.

171.17 | Differences | DECAUX::ATZEGI::EGERT | Etsch_on_his_GPX | Thu Jun 21 1990 09:31 | 9 |
| Hi Matthias,
I think there are some enhancements in CLI of
GULAM like Command-complition (Insert-Key); I
like this because it saves a Lot of Key-strokes.
Of course there may be a lot more features
but i can't remember (i lost the Docu.).
