150.0. "UK blank disc shops" by FOOT::WRIGHT (I AM a member of this company) Thu Jun 30 1988 07:43

    Here's a question for all us UK users.
    Can anyone recommend a mail order shop for buying blank 3.5 discs?

150.1 Floppies door to door.RDGENG::KEANEThu Jun 30 1988 09:4018
    Hi Tony in Sunny Basingstoke,

    	The best place to by 3.5 in floppy disks is BASINGSTOKE.

    If you go to HSV Ltd. They sell mail order but will sell from the
    office. I bought 10 unbranded 3.5 DS/DD from them for 10 pounds.
    on Tuesday this week. I have bought 30 previously and they were
    all good.

    HSV are located on the first floor of the office block above the
    shops in the town centre. The entrance to the office block can be
    found in the side walkway opposite the ARGUS Catalogue Shop.

    Cheers

150.2more on cheapo floppies.RDGENG::KEANEThu Jun 30 1988 09:5423
    re 150.1 from me,

    I will get jumped all over, recommending using unbranded disks,
    however I have now got over 80. I have only had one disk that had
    one bad spot. found during format, not in use. I have never lost
    any files from the disks.
    Peter Watts however has an ST with a different type of drive unit
    to mine, (I have an STM with a CHINON brand drive). He has found that
    disks I found worked fine, were useless on his machine. So he only
    recommends Sony real brand. You pays your money and takes your choice.
    I can format my cheapo's with Hyperformat, 11 sectors and 82 tracks
    and they still work well, (on my machine), I wouldnt try to interchange
    at that formatted density.

    P.S. HSV do sell branded disks at more cost dont know how much
    more.

150.8Anyone got an update ?WARNUT::KAYDWORM-mode noterThu Nov 08 1990 03:4713
It's been a while since this note has seen any activity, so does anyone
have any more recent recommendations ? It's interesting to see how much
prices have dropped isn't it ?!

I'm after a few blank discs (about 20-30), and I'm baffled by the sheer
number of advertisers in the ST press. I assume I can just get any DSDD
discs, and I'm not bothered about whether they are branded or not.

Any recommends or war stories gratefully received.

Cheers,

    Derek.

    WHS have been seen highly dubious looking floppies for 15 (10 off).
    They come with an unusual case that collapses and acts like a display
    case. I tried buying some disks branded "Select" from Argos -
    advertised at 6, but they charged me 3.99 when I went through the
    checkout.
