104.1 | OK to get ST version | VINO::BHAMILTON | Buzz Hamilton | Wed May 25 1988 13:34 | 4 |
| A call to Bret at WP cleared up a question I had. Indeed DEC employees
can take advantage of this offer to buy the ST version at a hefty
discount. The employee can buy one of as many of the products in
the offer as desired.

ST to run WordPerfect?
In other words: will 'WP Amiga & WP Atari' be enough or do I
need to buy more?

Yep, that is all you need. I got it at the same price as a student
and it works well. Most of the other stuff listed is for IBM stuff.

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. IF YOU WANT ONLY WP FOR ATARI, SPECIFY THAT
ON THE FORM, AND FORK OVER YOUR $99.
IF YOU WANTED WP FOR AMIGA, YOU WOULD SPECIFY THAT, AND FORK OVER
$99, ECT.

| Got my $99 WordPerfect kit. Don't know if it's worth $349 (list),
but it definitly is worth $99! Some nice stuff: fantastic search
capability, can put columns in the middle of a page - with regular
full width text above and below, awesome speller and thesaurus,
control over defaults (I just hated having to turn off right
justification Every time I used 1st Word). This baby is going to
take a Lot of study to be able to use fully! - Chris

I didn't get my $99.00 WP through this deal but rather as a student but
it was an off the shelf WP, with manuals everything (including being put on
the WP update mailing list). The printer config option asks where
the printer is attached: Parallel (printer port), serial (Com port), or
MIDI (!). (I hope I am remembering this corretcly).

104.12 | Should we buy it? | ISTG::ENGHOLM | Larry Engholm | Sun Aug 07 1988 00:18 | 9 |
| My wife and I are thinking about buying WordPerfect for our ST.
We have only one floppy drive, and it's single density. But since
we upgraded to a meg of memory, we can run with a ramdisk. Will
we have to be constantly swapping floppies to use it?
Does anybody recommend or recommend against WordPerfect for the
ST? Is it possible to get the $99 deal from a dealer, or only directly
from WordPerfect?

I run my WP with one SD floppy, 1 meg and a Ramdisk (450K). I copy the printer
files and such to the ramdisk and set it up as the scratch disk. No cumbersome
swapping of floppies. (There may be a little swapping now and then, but not
bad at all.)

104.14 | don't bother? | DELNI::GOLDSTEIN | or my evil twin stealing my account | Mon Aug 15 1988 18:39 | 18 |
| I'm running WP with one DS floppy (720k) drive and a RAMdisk (1040STf);
no problems, though WP _insists_ (if you believe its doc) that you
keep the data on a separate disk from the program, and a third disk
for the auto-save function (RAM?), so it constantly invokes the
"swap disk B into drive A" routine. Sort of a pain.
Actually, my very preliminary hacking with it leaves me VERY
DISAPPOINTED. I kinda think 1ST_WORD_PLUS would be as good! And
that's not a compliment. WordPerfect shares free_1ST_WORD's
slow-down-the-keys nastiness, and it's a CPU hog anyway. And if
I created a text document with an editor, it CANNOT automatically
convert hard returns to soft ones, which DECtype and WPSplus take
for granted. And on my Epson-compatible Panasonic printer, it doesn't
offer me the near-LQP and Draft fonts; instead, it figures out how
to force the printer to do a medium-speed one-pass mediocre-quality
font. Very strange. Well, I guess I have to become a hacker to
use it. Not what I expected!

I have succesfully used WP without it constantly asking for swap with a RAMdisk
(about 450K) and 360K drive. I also got it to talk to my NEC P2200 24pin
printer that is not listed in the extensive list of 'supported' printers.
Follow the instructions to 'install' your own printer and it will work quite
fine (should is the word). I have been quite pleased with WP on my Atari.

104.17 | April '89 'maintenence upgrade' | EUCLID::PAULHUS | Chris @ MLO6B-2/T13 dtn 223-6871 | Fri Apr 14 1989 13:33 | 6 |
| In the April '89 issue of WPCorp Report, there's (finally!)
a 'maintenence upgrade' (they couldn't bless it with a new version
number, could they...) for WordPerfect 4.1 for the Atari. It gets
rid of the cludgy file selector of the original and allows the file
selector of your choice (std. GEM, or others too?). Since this
has been my biggest gripe with WP, my $10 is in the mail. - Chris

| About May of this year WordPerfect announced an upgrade to 4.1. That upgrade
has been delayed time and again, but just became available TODAY! It will
cost you $25 + $3 shipping and handling. It comes on three 3.5 inch disks.
I ordered my set via VISA today, and delivery was promised within three
weeks. The order number is 800-222-9409.
I don't have the details on what changes are incorporated in the upgrade.
Perhaps someone else can fill us in as to what they are.
