Hi fello Atarians, here are two questions that may get the "parents/travelers" amongst you motivated to answer. A friend of mine is considering buying a 1040-st but does also want to keep his options open for moving to the states. The potential problem we can see is that his atari won't work in the U.S. for the simple reason that you guys there move faster (60 hz) compared to the european rate of 50 hz. We europeans are most-times deadlier than you guys over there but with the aid of a transformer the mains can be brought up to the 220V that this beast expects. Question 1: Does the SM124 monitor need 50 hz or is 60 OK also? Question 2: Does anybody know of any educational programs on the ST suitable for kids five years old and up? No this is not for myself! ADV-thanks-ANCE PS I own a 520 st with an NEC-1036 floppy (3.5" 800k) and by the way there is a heard of other Atari users here in Nijmegen (about twenty)

61.1 | Should work | HJUXB::HASLOCK | Nigel Haslock @ Manalapan,NJ | Tue Apr 26 1988 14:47 | 13 |
I moved from Switzerland to the USA a few years ago. I brought all of my electronics with me. The only machine that had problems with 60 hz was my reel to reel tape deck. Everything else converts the supply to DC before using it. Thus, without checking, I would expect the monitor to work happily via a transformer. The other thing I had problems with was the television set I was using as a monitor with my Atari 400. It will display US broadcasts in black and white and without sound. One day I will work out how to get the colour to work again. Nigel |
