Open City, Theater For The Future
Secures a South End Home
=================================
Open City, Theater for the Future has reached an agreement with Local # 26,
Hotel Restaurant, Institutional Employees and Bartenders Union which will
allow the new theater company to reside at the Paramount Penthouse Theater
located on the third floor of 58 Berkeley Street in Boston's South End.
Open City, a not-for-profit corporation was founded to stimulate reflection
and debate about identity and to enrich understanding of queer culture in
contemporary life. The Company plans to take occupancy of the space
immediately.
Both the theater company and the Local 26 are extremely pleased by this
collaboration. Artistic Director Steven O'Donnell and Union officials
developed a cordial and productive relationship during O'Donnell's many
years as the creative head of Triangle Theater Company. "We heard that
Steve was starting a new theatrical venture and we wanted him and his
talented production crew in the Penthouse." stated Union Vice-President
Janice Loux. O'Donnell commented that "the Union's generous offer to
provide Open City with a home will allow our fledgling company the
opportunity to produce top-quality theater in the very near future."
Due to this exciting new development, Open City plans to spend the spring
enhancing the theater space in preparation for an official opening in the
Fall.
