| Hi,
I'd like to know how can i get the BASEstar DDE Server
software. Because some customers want to know how can they
share data between BASEstar for VMS systems and DDE compliant
PC applications running on distributed network systems.
>>> There is a VMS based NetDDE package that allows for BASEstar
Classic to talk with any DDE compliant application. The NetDDE
for VMS is available from Wonderware, the bridge between
BASEstar and the VMS NetDDE is available from us.
Can this functionality only be done by using Wonderware Intouch ?
Or it can be done by using BASEstar Open ?
>>> Not sure what you're asking here. BASEstar Open has a Windows
V3.11, Windows 95, and Windows NT client. Each have a DDE
Bridge. This bridge connects any DDE application with the
BASEstar Open Client. The BASEstar Client can communicate with
any BASEstar Open server regardless of what hardware or
operating system it is running on.
What is the Digital's profit in this case ? We try to sell
another solution based on BASEstar Open or we present the
solution using Wonderware Intouch ?
>>> In the BASEstar Classic case, there is little to no profit,
other than perhaps selling the BASEstar Classic server. In the
BASEstar Open case, it fits within the strategy and is part of
our roll-out.
Can Digital sell Wonderware products ?
>>> No. Wonderware must be sold via a Wonderware distributor.
This information is very important to us.
Any help would be very appreciated.
>>> Please consider BASEstar Open on Windows NT, with a Visual
Basic (or BGE) front end as an alternative to Wonderware if
Process Visualization is what is required. BASEstar Open on
WNT is very cost competitive to other MMIs (like Wonderware),
and Visual Basic and the DDE connections make it quite
attractive.
