5081.0. "Temporary Foster Home Needed For Two Cats" by PROXY::POWERS (Bridget Powers) Mon Nov 25 1991 16:33

Hello,

I'm between a rock and a hard place, and the only way I can get out
is to find someone who would be willing to take two of my cats until next
summer.

Yes, I think that's a lot to ask too. No, I don't know that anyone
would actually be willing to help me. But I have to ask, you see... people
have been very kind as of late, and there is the outside chance that someone
will not only understand, but will be willing to help...

"Why are you trying to find a home for your cats until next summer",
you may ask... Well, I'm a college student. I've moved in with my parents
during my Cooperative Education at Digital this semester to save on rent;
because I am graduating in May which is only 5 months beyond the end of the
co-op, I will have to stay with them those extra 5 months.

"What does this have to do with your cats? Why can't they stay at
your parent's house?" My parents have two cats of their own, and have just
adopted a third. When I moved back in with my parents, one of my cats got
ill and had to have surgery. So we took her to stay at my parents house.
My parents have decided that four is the absolute maximum number of cats
they will allow at thier house, yet my other two cats need a place to stay.

"Where are they now?" Right now, someone is taking care of them.
But I have to relocate them right away. This woman and her husband have
been very generous to have taken care of the two cats since I began the
co-op.

"Are you absolutely sure you can't bring them to your parents house?"
Yes, I am. I have offered any bargain I can, but my parents insist that
if they find these cats at their house, they will have to have them put to
sleep.

"Why not just find an adoptive home for them? By asking for someone
to take care of them temporarily, you are possibly being unfair to the cats."
I can't think of it that way... The cat who was ill is the sister of one of
the cats that needs a temporary home. I could not dream of separating them
for the rest of their lives -- I know that cats are attached to people, not
places as some people say... and I love these cats very much.

I need help. I feel completely powerless. I can't move out into
an apartment, and I can't bring the cats to live with me. With my graduation
only 6 months away -- at which time I can move into a new apartment -- I am
so close!

I know that there are a lot of people out there who would be willing
to help, but just can't right now... beleive me, I understand. I am just
hoping that one person with the generosity and the ability to help me will
read this note by chance and reply...

What you are asking isn't impossible to find. I am currently housing
and loving a cat for my friend Sheri who is about to complete a 3 year
tour in Hawaii with the Navy. Kaisha, the cat, has been with me since
Sheri went to Hawaii, and will move back in with Sheri in February when
Sheri moves back to Monterey. We decided to do this to avoid putting
    Kaisha through quarantine in Hawaii.

    Good luck to you.

Are these cats used to going outside? Would you consider footing the
bills for them (food and whatever vet bills come up). If so
I may have a solution but the person couldn't afford to pay for the
    additional cats.
