5072.0. "Build a stray fund?" by BOOKS::GERDE (Cymbal crash 2X only...DTN 237-6302) Wed Nov 20 1991 11:18

Can we help out with some abandoned kittens?

Left at a vet's Tuesday morning ... a box with attached note ...
"Here are 5 kittens and their mother."

When the vet arrived that morning, there were only 4 kittens and the
mother. (One kitten apparently got out of the box and is now fending
for him/herself.) This vet does not have room for these strays, and
was going to euthanize them. I got involved last night...Linda
Kuropatkin asked me to please seek help from this notesfile. So, I
called the vet this morning for further information on the drop-offs.

The vet has decided NOT to euthanize. The receptionist generally cares
for strays through a stray fund...which is now depleted. Here's the
deal she has worked out with her employer.

-- strays are immediately tested for FeLV and wormed
-- the receptionist pays the vet $5.00/FeLV test
-- the receptionist pays $1.00/day for boarding

This money is taken from the stray fund. But since it is depleted, she
    pays out of pocket.

The best bet for these kittens is immediate adoption. They are now all
in one cage (as I said, no room at the vet's).

Adoption fees:	Females...$25.00 (refunded when spayed)
    			Males.....$15.00 (refunded when neutered)

    ...the kittens...

    		2 females, 2 males -- 5 months old

    	...the colors...

    		2 yellow/white, 1 gray/white, 1 black/white

    	...attitude...

very skittish ... no one knows what kind of life
    		they've had so far

    	...health...

    		FeLV negative (yay!)
    		being wormed now

    ... the mother...

    		calico -- 2 years old

    	... attitude... very friendly
    	... FeLV negative

The kittens will need extra attention ... they are very frightened.

There are three ways we can help.

    	1. adopt
    	2. foster until adoption
    	3. donate $ to the stray fund

    If you can help,
--please contact me either through VAXmail or VOICEmail
    		BOOKS::GERDE, DTN 237-6302
    	or,
--please contact the receptionist, Raffael @ (508)632-7110
(I'm deliberately not mentioning the vet's name,
at their request, as they're trying to avoid drop-offs)
    	or,
--please contact Linda Kuropatkin @ (508)632-8420

I'll be stopping off to see the kittens this afternoon, and make my
    donation to the stray fund.

I stopped at the vet's this morning to check out the kittens and
    mother. They're real cuties.

The mother is truly very friendly, and a good mother.

The 4 kittens, though they act like strays, aren't wild. They'll give
a little hiss, but don't mind being picked up, and are very calm.
Although a little on the slim side, they're not scrawny, and they all
    appear very healthy.

Again, to adopt, foster, or help out with cash, contact me or Rafaela
    (632-7110).
