5069.0. "Urinary Tract Infection-HELP" by WMOIS::RIVETTS_P () Tue Nov 19 1991 11:05

        My kitty has a urinary tract infection. The vet gave her
    medicine for twice a day. My question is, she is peeing on everything.
    I know she started doing this because the infection is bothering her,
    but when will she stop. She pee's in her bed this morning. This is
    only the second day she has been on the medicine. Maybe when she
    doesn't feel that she has to go every 5 minutes, she will stop.

        Do any of you have any experience with this?

    Thanks

    I've just gone through this. The random peeing lasted for about three
    days. Mine was on Amoxi 2 x a day plus a pill called probanthine (sp)
    which relaxes the muscles and helps them go easier. I pulled out a
    couple of extra small litter boxes, placed heavy towels under them and
    placed them throughout the house. The medication should kick in
    shortly, if not call your vet immediately.

    Also, buy an enzyme cleaner like Nature's Miracle at a pet store; it
    will remove the urine smell. If the smell remains, your cat will
    "revisit" the site even after the infection is cleared up. Many of us
    have been thru this, sigh.

    For more information about Urinary Tract infections, check the
    keywords. The keyword for this is "FUS" or "CYSTITIS".

    Maggie had this when I first adopted her, and it was diagnosed when she
    went to the vets, unfortunately, immediately after she was spayed, and
    the poor thing was so miserably sick. She had to stay at the vets a
    couple of days, so lucky for me, she no longer peed in the house
    randomly. I'll never forget the morning my youngest son climbed into my
    bed, not feeling well, and vomited on me. In the middle of all that
    hulabaloo, Mags jumped up on the bed and peed on me. What a way to
    start the morning!

5069.6Missy is all better!WMOIS::RIVETTS_PThu Nov 21 1991 12:5210
        Hi, yes kitty is all better. The vet gave her a shot and 7 days
    worth of Amoxi. She has stopped peeing everywhere, only in her litter
    box. She feels soooo much better. She is back to chasing her brother
    around the house again.

         It's funny, but after the third day when I came home from work,
    she came up to me and rubbed all over my legs. She is never one to
    come greet me. My little boy always does all the greeting. I think
    she was saying "thank you".

5069.8Update on kittys Urinary InfectionWMOIS::RIVETTS_PMon Dec 02 1991 08:5019
       Update on 5069-Urinary track infection. She given the Amoxi for
    seven days, but I decided to finish the bottle so she was actually on
    it for 10 days. The last day she took the medicine, she started
    squating all over the place again. So...off the the vet again. This
    time I stuck a cup under her and got a urine sample. There was blood
    in it. The vet says she has FUS. He told me to give her c/d for 3
    weeks and then bring in a urine sample. He said then I could feed her
    Hills but that it may come back or never come back.

       What do you guys do with cats with this, do you continue to feed
    them the c/d or switch over to the Hills and feed them only the c/d
    when they have this problem.
       Another question. It has been only 4 days (today being the forth
    day) and she hasn't stopped squating yet. But she doesn't do it as
    often. The vet said this will take 3-5 days. I hope she stops soon.
    My other cat loves to play in boxes. Missy (the one with FUS) keeps
    peeing in them.
