| Bonnie,
Try the Compassion Veterinary Clinic....they have big hearts. They
might help. And they are right on Hosmer Street which is here in
Marlboro where we both live. If you need help getting her, give me
a call. I'd gladly give you a hand. No kitten should be without
a home...especially tonite when it appears the wind will be whipping.

| Bonnie,
If you can get her to the vet, I'll be able to help financially a
little bit. I just spent 127.00 yesterday on my kids, but there's
always a few bucks available for a needy fur face! Let me know if you
get her to come to you, and I'll help in any way I can.

| Bonnie..
I'd be willing to help out with a few bucks too!! The sad news
is that mostly all shelters (especially the no-kill ones) are
so overcrowded I doubt very much that you would have any luck
trying to bring her to one.
Hopefully the clinic Nancy spoke about....has big enough hearts
to take her. Keep us posted.......I'm going home to hunt down
my two strays to see if they will sleep in the cellar for the
night...it's much to cold out there!!

| Bonnie,
The number for Dr. Patil at Compassion is 485-PETS.
Better yet, capture her and let's just bring her there physically.
Then there is less of a chance they will turn her away.
Right Yvonne?

| THANKS TO ALL WHO RESPONDED & SENT MAIL! You people are so kind & big
hearted! It really restores my faith in humanity. I'm going now to see
if the little girl across the street is home. Once I figure out where
she is, I'll try to find her a shelter for the night. I'ts going to be
storming out. I know I can't keep her in the house, as my girls
wouldn't be happy (or free from infections) with that situation!
I'll check in again soon.

5037.6 | I agree | MR4DEC::COLAIANNI | | Wed Oct 30 1991 16:16 | 11 |
| I tend to agree Nancy. I really liked them down there. I thought the
lady was going to hold Furby for ransom! She wanted me to let her stay
there! She hugged and kissed her for about 5 minutes before she put her
in the carrier to let me take her home. (Actually the bill seemed like
paying ransom, but I had lots of stuff done for two cats. ;-) )
Bonnie, you may want to call your vet in Northboro and talk to them
too. Since you have gone to them for quite a while, you may be able to
work something out with them also. Let us know.

5037.7 | It's happening! Thanks to all of you! | MCIS2::HUSSIAN | Christmas is only 8 weeks away! | Wed Oct 30 1991 17:13 | 32 |
| Hi! It looks like everything is going to happen tomorrow!! I'm so happy
that this BEAUTIFUL girl will finally get the life she so deserves!
I called the vet (Marlboro Animal Hospital, cuz they're very good, and
it's half way between home & work) and planned to bring her in on
Friday for testing. They asked me to bring her in tomorrow, and they
could test, spay, & give her her shots & first Leukemia vaccination.
I can pick her up tomorrow night & they will take my credit card number
as insurance of payment. (I didn't tell them that it's maxed out!)
I told them about the beautiful people in this file & they were quite
impressed! The woman who she's staying w/ will drop her off at 9:00,
and I'll pick her up at around 5:00. Terry (the little girls mom) says
she can stay w/ them til she finds a perm home.
As soon as I find out the results of her testing & everything is
settled, I'll enter a note in the adoptions topic. But for now, I'll
give this info; She's definitely a SHE. She's a tiger kitty w/
BEAUTIFUL markings. She's long haired. She's GREAT w/ children &
other cats. She's very young, they think she's less than a year. She
prefers to stay inside, but goes out from time to time.
I tried to talk to the woman about the fact that she's exposing her
cats to a potentially diseased cat, but she feels that their
vaccinations are enough to protect them. (eeesh!)
THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART! I will be able
to put a little bit toward this vet bill (about $20), but I NEVER EVER
could have made such a difference in this cats life w/o all of your
help!

5037.8 | just a reminder and a warning | WR2FOR::CORDESBRO_JO | set home/cat_max=infinity | Wed Oct 30 1991 17:56 | 19 |
| Not to rain on this parade or anything, but Bonnie, the next time you
talk to your neighbor, explain to her that the things that her cats can
catch from a stray can't be protected against by a vaccine yet. I am
talking about things like roundworms, ringworm (fungus), FIP, FIV,
fleas, ear mites and stuff like that. She really is taking a risk by
taking in a stray.
If she could house the stray in a separate room, or in the garage or
something, she would be taking active steps to protect her cats.
Also, when you pet the stray, always always wash your hands with hot
water and soap before touching your own pets.
Good job on pulling it all together for this cat. Team efforts always
pay off. :^)

| Good job Bonnie! I'll be down to visit you soon, and give you my
donation toward the vet bill. I forgot how nice the folks at Marlboro
Animal Hospital are. I used to use them when I lived in Marlboro.
I'm glad this little girl will have the chance she deserves, for a good
home and family! Three cheers for Bonnie!!!

5037.10 | CLAUDia | MCIS2::HUSSIAN | Christmas is only 8 weeks away! | Thu Oct 31 1991 14:03 | 36 |
| Thank you again everyone!!!
I have a report on the kitty. I first wanted to let everyone know that
the little girl who is feeding & sheltering her calls her Claudia. And
that Claudia has two different colored eyes. One is brown & one is
yellow. But the vet told me to call at noon, so I figured I'd wait.....
Well, I called the vet to see how she was & he told me that they were
going to have to change her name. I asked, "What do you want to name
her?" He answered, "CLAUD!" He went in & shaved her belly and realized
she was a HE! This is good because it's less expensive to neuter than
spay. So, they spayed him, tested him for Leukemia which turrned out
NEGHATIVE :*D !!! Did a fecal test and that too was negative (no worms
or parasites) and gave him all of his first boosters. He did have a
flea or two, so they provided some spray which should take care of it.
Now for the BEST part---->The Vet is working w/ an MSPCA program and
has generously taken 50% off of the bill!!! What started out to be a
$158.00 vet bill was already cut down to $79.00!! What a great guy,
huh?! I'm bringing $30.00 dollars w/ me after work, which is my
contribution along w/ someone elses, so that brings our bill down to
$49.00!!
I know of at least four more of you who have offered to help, and I
have not deducted your contributions from the total yet. I don't
know exactly what's going to happen here as far as how much each
person is giving.if there is anything extra it will go back to the
person who sent it, OR you can each contact me by mail, let me know
what your contributions will be & we can avoid that whole overpayment
situation. I hope this doesn't sound too forward. I HONESTLY appreciate
all of your efforts, EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU!
Thanks for the time & understanding! I'll give a progress report
tonight after I pick him up!

Their son wanted to call the cat Claude, and when they suggested Claudia, he
said no! :-)
They also had a female cat named Peter, by the way :-)
Thanks, Bonnie, for caring so much and making sure this kitty is taken care of.

| Here's an update on Claud!!
I picked him up a the vets last night after work, and he was still very grogy.
He looked at me like, "What are we doing here, and WHY are you waking me up!?"
The tech put him into the cardboard kitty carrier we brought, and he must have
tipped over, because when we came back into the room, the box had turned onto
it's end! He didn't care, he was zonked!
He was checked out & passed everything w/ flying colors. The reason his eyes
are two different colors is because he's got an old eye injury which has healed,
but limited his sight in one eye. He doesn't seem to mind this too much. The
doctor seems to think he's about a year old. They gave me a list of things to
do & not do for the next few days, which I left w/ Terry (Claud's foster mom).
The little girl across the street was so happy to see him when I brought the
carrier into the house!
Terry says they will let him stay there til he finds a home, and that she
doesn't mind waiting for a GOOD one to come along. Also, I heard about a
girl a block away who was looking for her lost cat a couple (maybe few) weeks
ago. I went to her house on my way back from buying halloween candy, but the
man who answered the door spoke no english. He could only tell me that Amanda
was at the doctors & would be home later. I had plans later & will stop by
again on my way home from work. The only thing he could make out that I said
was "Does Amanda live here?" and "Meow meow". I felt so silly trying to explain
that I found a cat that may be hers. :*)
Also, I told Dave about how beautiful & loveable this cat is, and he could
tell EXACTLY what I had in mind! He said, "No, Bonnie. Two cats are enough."
I said, "But honey, this one's a boy & he'd probably get along GREAT w/ our two
girls!! PLEASE??!?!" He said, "When he gets better, you bring him here & you'll
see how well these girls get along w/ him!" (He was being sarcastic, meaning
that our girls would tear him to shreads.) so I asked, "You just want to prove
to me that they wouldn't get along, right?" He said, "Right!" I asked, "Well
then what if they got along GREAT?! THEN could we keep him?" He just looked
totally STUMPED! He didn't even say NO!!! Which is almost as good as yes in this
noters opinion! Right Yvonne?!? He's been pretty determined to NOT let our
cat population get over two cats, and has stated on many MANY many occasions
that we are NOT getting another pet until we get a house, and then it will
be a golden retriever. I don't know if I'll be able to change his mind, but I'm
sure going to try!
THANKS TO ALL!!

| Bonnie,
It would serve Dave right if your two girls LOVED Claude....(smile)
My three hissed at Cyrano at first, but Zuzu promptly capitulated
after the first hiss and now they are inseparable....in fact, this
little boy-kitty has gotten my three ladies out of a lazy slump and
all nite and all day all you hear are gurgles and mews and the patter
of 16 little paws racing up and down the apartment from room to room
to room. He certainly has brought LIFE back into this crew, and I'm
sure that Claude would do the same for yours! There's something
about the male/female thing! :-)

Back when we had only Tigger, I remember asking Bill what he thought about
maybe getting another cat? He said yeah, that would be ok. I then asked him
what about three? He said no, two would really be enough.

| Hi Bonnie!
I'm on your side! If he didn't say "No", you're wearing him down, and
now that the major vet expenses have been taken care of, he can't use
that as an excuse. Of course I'm sure there will be more expenses in
the future, but at least you can plan ahead for those. This trip was
unplanned for.
I would love to see him stay with you, and would feel my donation
toward his vet bill was used to get him the loving hime he deserves.
Keep after your SO!!! He's weakening. Don't forget to talk to your girls
before you introduce them! You'll need their cooperation too! ;-)
Also make sure you thank Dr. Nelson from me and my kids, for being so
generous in this matter!

| Bonnie,
I tried that form of justification -- explaining that *I* do all of the
cat related work and PAY FOR EVERYTHING! His retort was that he still
has to live with them, and more isn't always merrier. He does have a
point. Things are wonderful when they are all healthy and getting
along... but when they aren't, it can wreak havoc on the human side of
things.
Dana loves the cats very much, but our marriage can be tenuous enough
as it is without adding more cats to the scenario! Of course, we have
5 of the furry terrorists, and you're only trying to justify a 3rd....
Oh, heck, just do what I did to justify Kelsey (number 3). Nag and nag
and nag some more until he is so sick of listening he screams GO AHEAD,
GET THE [INSERT VILE WORDS HERE] CAT!!! out of sheer frustration.
SMILE :^).

5037.22 | I'm not sure how I feel now! | MCIS2::HUSSIAN | Christmas is only 8 weeks away! | Sun Nov 03 1991 10:33 | 30 |
| Well, I tried all of that, Roberta, and still no go. He hasn't come
right out and said no, but he's not saying yes eithre.#
$$$$$$$
Please excuse....Callie was trying to type too!!! ;*) I was going to
erase it, but I think it's kind of cute.....
Anyway, I'm begining to think Dave may be right, If I couldn't afford
to take him to the vet for his initial check up & services he needed,
how can I say that I can really afford to care for him in the long run?
I know that the most expensive part is taken care of, but like you said
Roberta, when they're sick, it tends to be pretty disruptive for all.
So I guess that I'm not pushey enough to end up getting into a
situation that I'll end up regretting & having to hear "I told you
so." But then again, things could change. I know we'd manage if he
ended up getting sick. Besides, I had dropped the subject days
ago, and Dave keeps mentioning that cat like he still hasn't made up
his mind. "Well, if they had a brother...." or "What do you think they
would do if we did keep him?" so who knows!! I'm taking as picture of
him today & making copies for a poster, and will continue to look for a
good home, but I have a feeling that after christmas if he's still an
orphan, we'd end up taking him.
I gotta run, Callie's being a pain in the butt! At least she's learning
to walk AROUND the keyboard instead of right over it!
