5013.0. "Ragdoll breeders" by DROPIT::BENHAM () Tue Oct 15 1991 10:54

A friend of mine is interested in getting a Ragdoll. We are trying
to find breeders in the area. Does anyone know of any in the Mass
    or New England area?

    thanks

I was asked to re-word my original reply but since Carole and I already
spoke off-line I simply deleted the entry altogether.

If anyone else would like information on Ragdolls, feel free to contact
    me via mail.

We got interested in 'Ragdolls' last spring when we saw an article in
Worcester T&G. The article mentioned Sue Villareal as chairman of
CFA's Ragdoll Breed Committee. We called her in Wisconsin to see if
she had a listing of breeders in N.E.

We were impressed with what we read about the breed. And wanted to
explore the possibility of breeding Ragdolls ourselves.

Sue had a couple breeders listed in Conn. and she knew one that just
had a litter. We contacted and visited Sue Vallee in New Fairfield,
CT. She had a litter of Blue Points which is exactly what we wanted.
We picked up our female, Sasha, over the Labor Day weekend so we could
have more time with her before going back to work.

We're not sure if we want to get a stud in Jan/Feb or send ours out
for breeding next summer. In either case, we wouldn't have our first
litter until early next fall. The association prefers that the first
pregnancy is after the cat is 1 yr.

Our breeder mentioned that she is going to be moving south next year.
She may want to downsize her cattery before moving and still have an
older cat that she may want to part with.

If you have further questions, I'd be more than happy to talk further.

    Nick,

I know Sue Vallee well. She has some very nice cats. My Ragdoll came
from a breeder in New Jersey, Linda Swierczynski, who is also the Vice
President of the Ragdoll Fanciers Club. Linda and Sue share some
    similar lines.

Does your Ragdoll match the breed description? Mine doesn't. Kelsey
is a beautiful cat (seal colorpoint neuter), but he is small (10 lbs.)
and not at all mellow. He is wimpy, but not laid-back. He has a
loud, screechy voice, & hates to be picked up and held or sit on laps.
His coat is thick and silky and it matts terribly in the winter. His
winter coat is incredible; in the summer he drops it entirely and
looks pretty stupid. His best feature is his eyes. They are large, and a
very beautiful shade of intense blue.

Despite all this, I still love the breed and hope to have another
Ragdoll someday. The best line of cats I've seen are Ragnarok. They
seem to display more of the Ragdoll traits than any of the other
    bloodlines.

Good luck in your endeavor to breed Ragdolls!
