5009.0. "Neurotic Cat" by SUBURB::MARSHC () Mon Oct 14 1991 09:06

    Can anybody help ??? Since about 3 weeks ago my cat, Mushroom, has
    become extremely moody & tempermental. She & Omlette (my other fluffy
    kittie) are usually very loving (Omlette apears to be fine) but I have
    been bitten twice by Mushroom and she has now taken to thieving, growling
    and generally being a nuisence. I wormed both cats about 5-6 weeks ago and
    it's not as if they don't get plenty (if not too much) to eat. Both my
    partner and I think it could be that she can now sence my pregnancy
    which is currently in it's 5th month. Would this cause her to be so
    moody or is it just a phase. I ask now because my biggest fear is she
    will become jelous when the baby comes and then I'd have to give her
    away.....????!!!!

    Any Ideas ??

    Chris

    Couild she be ill? A vet trip seems in order.

    I have one cat that became extremely moody (which wasn't like him) when
    he got a real big abscess behind his tail. The poor guy was in a lot
    of pain....and I didn't see the abscess until it broke. I second the
    idea about maybe a vet visit is in order.

    Some things to think about if you recently saw a change in his
    personaility???? Has anything changed in your house
    lately that might be upsetting to him? Are there any new cats in
    your neighborhood? Have you recently changed food? How does
    he get along with Omelette???

    It is my opinion that he wouldn't even know you were pregnant...
    so I don't believe jealousy would be setting in.

    Keep us posted...Sandy
5009.3nails too long, maybe?AIMHI::WATSONMon Oct 14 1991 19:3710
    My Benj gets crabby if I've missed one of his claws in the clipping
    process, and it gets to the point where he can feel it. I"m always
    careful about doing them regularly, but every once in awhile I miss one
    (he's got huge feet with tons of claws.)

    It could be something as simple as a nail growing into the soft pad in
    his foot, or at least coming into contact with it when he walks. This
    is enough to make Benj, a normally sweet-tempered cat, pretty crabby.

    Good luck!

    OH I think he knows your pregnant. Your smell changes alot (no
    offense - humans can't notice the difference).

    I agree about the trip to the vet. THat's the first thing to do
    when you notice such a big personality change. Pain or illness
    could easily cause this.

    Try a thorough exam starting with his head and working all the
    way to the tip of his tail. Massage and examine every part of
    his body. Look for absesses, growths or areas that elicit a
    reaction from him that would indicate it is painful. Then call
    your vet.

    Could be a toothache, also.

5009.6Time for the VetSUBURB::MARSHCMon Oct 21 1991 08:509
    I have decided today is the day to book her into the vet, Last night
    she didn't even come to bed...which is very unusual. I wouldn't
    usually worry but she is normally such a loving cat.

    I'll let you know how we get on.....

    Cheers
