| Somewhere in here there's a discussion of this. be a little careful,
as some cats have developed eye ulcerations from the litter; it also
aggravated my Sweetie's respiratory problem.

| To find more topics that deal with the subject of sand type clumping
litters, type "show key/full litter" at the notes prompt. There are
several discussions of these types of products, as well as notes that
tell about associated problems with this type of litter.

| I used one of these types of litter, Kitty Purrfect for 2 months. Yes,
being able to scoop the little balls is great, but after awhile the
ammonia smell permeated the litter and then the whole house. For me,
with four cats, that smell is not worth the convenience. I'm back to
using Johnny Cat with the liner bags. Might be more expensive, but at
least the smell is gone!

4959.4 | boxes still need to be disinfected | WR2FOR::CORDESBRO_JO | set home/cat_max=infinity | Tue Sep 24 1991 21:18 | 12 |
| I think that this type of litter is a bad idea because it gives folks
the idea that they don't have to clean their litter boxes. In order to
reduce the risk of infectious organisms growing in the box, litter
boxes should be disinfected when they are changed. If you aren't
changing the box, then it isn't being disinfected either.
Just as an example, roundworm is one of the types of illnesses that can
linger in a litter box and infect cats over and over in the
environment. You could keep treating your cat, and treating your cat,
and all the while he is being reinfected from his own litter box.

4959.5 | Don't like it!! | EARRTH::DREYER | | Wed Sep 25 1991 09:44 | 7 |
| I just tried scoop away, and don't like it at all. The litter box
needsalot more attending to, and the ammonia does permeate the
remaining granules after a couple of weeks. With two cats it costs me
more than conventional letter as well, and the find sand gets
everywhere!

| Over in the U.K. you can buy litter which is made of/contains something
called "Fullers Earth" , I think this is a copyrighted name or
something as all litter which is of this type carries the name on the
bag. This stuff is like grey gravel, it soaks up the urine which then
forms into a lump and can be easily removed. We usually remove lumps
every day and top up with fresh litter, then every 3 weeks or so we let
the level of litter run down then empty the tray completely and wash it
out. There is very little mess from this litter and we have not noticed
any bad smells, and having tried other forms of litter I wouldn't use
anything else.
