4955.0. "feeding time" by KAOFS::J_GREGOIRE () Tue Sep 24 1991 13:26

       Hello everyone,

I have a problem with the feeding habit of my two cats, one of them
is four years old and the other one is 5 months old. My problem is
that when it's feeding time I tried to give the older cat his light
formula food and for the little one the kitten food, the little one
always want to eat the older cat's food.

Does anybody have a way to feed two cats with that age difference.

       Thanks for your help.

       Jean.

If the older cat likes to eat (as opposed to being picky) you can separate
them at eating time until the older one is finished eating. Or, try
putting the older cat's food some place s/he can get to, like a counter
top, that the little one can't.

With my big bunch, the only way is to stand there and watch them.
Everybody's needs are different, 2 of my cats have FUS, 3 will eat too
much if given the opportunity, 2 are slow, 2 are too FAT and the other
2 are ok. So the only way is make sure each one gets what they need.
Thank goodness kitties are quick eaters!

Ahhh...the lunch time monitor. That's how I deal with feeding
my eight. It's almost like directing traffic....you over there....
you come back here....stop stealing your brothers....

I have this problem too, adult food apparently tastes better
than Feline Growth and unfirtunatly the baby has figured it
out!! So, either I stand there, or put the baby in a sperate
room until he's done eating. The other problem I have is that
the baby eats 3 times a day, the others, once (they have dry
out). When I feed the baby his 2nd and 3rd meals, the others
go crazy! I'm going through bonkers like wildfire...(they only
get one per baby meal, I'm sure it doesn't help much!)

I also came up with the idea of putting Tigger (adult) up on the counter so he
could eat his food in peace. Now that the little guys can also jump on the
counter, it just slows CJ down a bit (she's always the "culprit")...but it's
easier putting her back on the floor when she jumps up than keeping them all
away. When I can, I keep them eating their own food. Who knows what they do
when I'm not looking anyway :-).

The kittens are still kind of in free-feeding mode; that is, they don't eat all
their food at mealtime, and I don't take it away, so they munch during the day.
Tigger also munches on it during the day when he's inside (not very often
this summer with the little rug-rats around :-)). We're keeping a close eye
on Tigger's weight...Mr. 13 pounder doesn't need any growth formula! Since
the weather is becoming colder, we might need to do something differently to
keep Tigger from eating the kitten food. I don't want the kittens to eat
regular food as their "main course" yet, and if it does taste better, they
might...
