Well folks, it's been a year since I adopted my two babies,
Tawny and Tigger, and I just wanted to share my good news!
I took them to the V-E-T on Saturday for their check up and
both my girls are doing 1000% better than they were when they
first found abandoned in the field. They seem to have learned
how to trust people, rather than be skittish and hide from them.
Any evidence of the abuse that they suffered when they were first
born through the first four (approx.) weeks of their lives is
GONE!! It's true what I was told by everyone here - love,
patience and understanding is what it takes to regain trust in
and abused animal.
I just want to say thanks to everyone in this file -- without the
great advice I received from you, Tawny and Tigger wouldn't be
where they are today! For anyone that is a "read only" person in
this file, don't be afraid to ask questions!! The best advice I
found wasn't from a book -- it was the people in this file!!

I'm so glad to hear that Tawny and Tigger are doing well.
If they were born outside their skittishness is probably
more due to being feral and not to abuse.

Tawny and Tigger were born with a litter of four other babies. THey
and their mom were thrown from a car into a field across from the
veterinary hospital that I go to. The doctor who owns the hospital
also lives on the premises and witnessed the *&@#^! that did this,
went and tried to gather all of them together. The mom cat was
frightened of Dr. Brown and ran into the street into a car (she
didn't make it).
Anyhow, Dr. Brown managed to gather up four of the six kittens that
night. The next day she found the other two (my two) hiding in some
weeds. As far as she could tell, the animals were probably mistreated
either by the adults or kids in the house (my two are terrified by
kids but since Joe and I have no children, they only hide when we
have company). Two of the kittens had broken legs, sore paws, etc.
The only problem my two had were a fly larvae that had embedded into
their skins. My vet said that this could have either been from the
night they spent in the field or wherever the kitties were being kept.
Tawny's was in her throat and Tigger's was above her front leg.
Thanks to a kind person (not necessarily because she was a vet) all
of these kittens are now placed in good homes. When I took T & T
for their check up, I asked how the others were doing. All are happy
and healthy!
It just angers me to no end that people can be so horrible and mistreat
their pets. THERE'S NO REASON!! How could someone do mean things to
something so tiny? These kittens were only a couple of weeks old when
this happened. Dr. Brown seemed to think that the people that tossed
mom and the babies out of the car just didn't want to deal with them
anymore. It's just not right!!!
I took these kittens into my home not really knowing what to expect.
The only kitten I had previous to them only lived three days after I
adopted her from the shelter. I did everything I could to save her nd
when she died, I was devastated. Dr. Brown suggested that I should
take home one or both of these kittens since they were so close (they
would snuggle together separate from the other kitties). She also
said that sometimes the best way to ease the pain of losing a pet
is to get another and that these two really needed someone to love
them.
Well, I took them home and loved them to bits and bits! They have
made such a change in Joe and I that we sometimes think about getting
another!!
I've talked enough...I just wanted to explain that these two were not
feral, just abused by someone who didn't care!!

Diana,
It's good to hear that T&T are doing so well. Sounds like they were
directed to you for a reason, you have become their perfect mom. And
yes, animals can bring about a change in people. I really feel that in
loving and caring for them (and they us) we tend to learn a great deal
more about ourselves and the people we live with.

Re: -1
I couldn't agree with you more!!
Someone just mentioned this to me the other day and I though that I'd
share it with all you...
Don't you wish that they would embarrass the people that abuse animals
in the same way that they do to people that break the law??
I never really thought about it before, but it only seems right that
they NOT be allowed to get away with it. Animals have feelings TOO!!
The local SPCA and other animal shelters really can't (or maybe won't)
do anything about it!
