| CONGRATULATIONS, GREG!!
From what I understand, adopting two kittens in the UK isn't that
easy to do! WHat a lucky person you are to be adopted by two sweet
furfaces!!
I don't know what you silly kitty is doing w/ it's tongue out, but
it must be the funniest thing!
Have a ball!

| Adopting isn't all that bad in the UK
We just made an apointment, and then picked out the 2 cuites!. The
only rules are that:
The cat protection league (CPL) will make a visit after 2 weeks to check
your cats are ok (and you)
You must have them spayed or neutered and the vet's certificate must
go back to the CPL.
And that's about it! All cats/kittens are free, but we donated the
going price, as it's a charity and they have soooo many abandoned
moggies!

| It is probably nothing to worry about--the tongue sticking out.
Nepenthe often sits around with his tongue sticking out. He will
sometimes be grooming himself and then just forget to bring it back
into his mouth. He looks very silly with it sticking out. :^D

| Mine do it too, but I always thought they were scenting out chicken
livers.
You're lucky to be able to chose, I never had to 'adopt' on either side
of the pond--they always found me.

| Count me in too. My cats will leave there tongues out after they
have cleaned themselves. We thought they were too tired to put it back
in. They look sooooo funny.

| Still another - my Penny will actually fall asleep with her tongue
hanging out! I usually can't resist going over and 'flipping' the
end, whereupon she gives herself a couple licks again, then goes
back to her interrupted nap. (hmmmm - payback for the 3 am wakeups?)

| Just the tip of Casey's tongue hangs out, usually when
he is in a really good mood, and is sitting in your
lap. We laugh at the dumb look it gives him!

| Anyone actually know why?
Dog's pant with their tongue to cool down.....

| Why do they do it? In Wrigley's case, I think it started as a survival
technique. He did this right from the start when we found him in our
driveway. I'm sure he knew it made him look very cute and silly, and
that we wouldn't be able to resist such cuteness. He was right!

| Yes, they do look so silly, especially when they wake up from a nap and
stand there with a dazed look in their eyes , tongue sticking out and
looking totally stupid - I guess the length of the protrousion depends
on how much licking they've done.

| The cat in the former house, Trixie, was panting alot with the
tongue hanging out when she was giving birth...kinda like Lamaze...:-)

4923.16 | why, 'cause it's cute | TYGON::WILDE | why am I not yet a dragon? | Fri Sep 13 1991 14:15 | 6 |
| from what I've read, cats do not pant to cool off...and panting is usually
a sign of distress (as in giving birth - just ask anyone who's done it)...
therefore, I think the tongue sticking out behavior you are describing is
just a quirk of the individual cat - some cats probably have a lazy tongue.

I think you are right Dian some cats do have lazy tongues. Other reasons
could also be related to teeth placement and arch structure. Then
there are cats like Callie who is somewhat of a mouth breather because
of the shortness of her nose.

| My elderly cat, Junkyard, sticks his tongue out all the time. I've
always contributed to the fact that he has no teeth. He looks really
silly, but the worst part is that he drools so excessively when his
tongue is out, I have to put a dishtowel under him!
