4915.0. "Wareham Mini Cat Shelter, Wareham, MA" by BOOVX1::MANDILE (Lynne Mandile a.k.a. HRH) Mon Sep 09 1991 10:57

This note is for the Wareham Mini Cat Shelter, Wareham, MA
that I am a volunteer for. (-: It is affiliated with the
Wareham/Carver Cat Shelter, and The Standish Humane Society.

The Wareham/Carver Shelters were started to try to help all the
countless "nobody" cats living in woods, dumpsters and beach areas.
Very few of the cats or kittens at the shelter come from private homes.

NOBODY'S CAT

Born in a world where nobody cared,
Hungry for anything nobody shared.

Screamed at and kicked at,
eyes filled with fear....
It's nobody's cat,
so don't shed a tear.

Pelted with stones,
bitten by dogs,
Parasite ridden,
wet from the bogs.

She's nobody's worry,
nobody's load,
nobody's pain,
lying there by the road.

Well, nobody bled,
and nobody cried.
She was nobody's cat,
now nobody died.

I will be posting stories about our kittens and cats (If you read
Lucy's story, you already have read about one of our cats!)
that are available for adoption. The Wareham Mimi Cat Shelter
is located in Wareham, MA. (towards Cape Cod, for those unfamiliar
with the area)

4915.1KITTENS! have had 1st shots and vet care...BOOVX2::MANDILELynne Mandile a.k.a. HRHFri Sep 06 1991 11:3039
Where: Wareham, MA Cat Shelter (near the Cape)

Fee: Free* ($15.00 deposit per kitten, refundable upon proof
of spaying/neutering of said kitten - of course, shelter
*loves* to get proof of spaying/neutering, and being told to
keep the deposit! (-; )

Grat: Shelter gives a bag of "goodies" with the kitten. A coupon
good for a free bag of catfood, a nametag, and other items
that I can't remember right now. (forgive me, TGIF!)

Approx. age of kittens is 3 months....all are drop offs, semi-feral
or abused. (drop off/abused as in dumped by the road, at the pound, or
rescued by caring cat persons.....like the one's from the burlap
bag in the water story.....)

Black Female & Black male - both sat in my lap purring away,
and love to be petted, held and scratched under the chin.
Were starved, but are coming around nicely.....

Calico female - Poor baby was abused - she gets frightened if
picked up, but will tuck her head into your hand, begging you
to pat her head, especially enjoys being petted on the head -
goes into purring, toe curling ectasy....

Red tabby w/white male - was tossed out a car window onto the
front lawn of the shelter. Quiet, not really shy but not sure
if he is welcome by humans any more (from the trauma of being
tossed out the car window, I'm sure...grrrr....) but, cautiously
crawled into my lap, and came around quickly with some gentle
petting and scratching, and even attempted to play with my fingers.

Many more......call/mail me for Shelter phone# - private phone#.

4915.2Update to .1075 - Special Cat Person Home neededBOOVX1::MANDILELynne Mandile a.k.a. HRHMon Sep 09 1991 07:4823
Re .1075 The calico female found a home Friday!!! Yeah!!!

Everyone wants a kitten that is >very< friendly, that purrs and
loves to be *held*, that craves attention, wanting to be petted
and cradled in your arms, looking at you with eyes full of adoration
and love, and then tucking his head under your chin, all the while purring
away non-stop?

Well, that is what I thought, too......But, I guess it's not true....

"Silas" is a gray 3 mth old male kitten at the shelter (Re. 1075)
who has been waiting for a home. Now, this little guy is a real
sweetiepie. If you looked up "purrbug" in the kitty dictionary,
his picture would be there! (-; But, he is overlooked by those
who come to the shelter looking for a kitten, because they are
put off by his over-friendlyness, and his being *just* a plain
gray color.
What Silas needs is that special sort of "cat person" to enjoy
his "purrsonality plus". If you have room in your home and
heart for "Silas" the love you will get in return will be 10 fold!

4915.3De-clawed Manx needs a home.....BOOVX2::MANDILEI love readin' & ridin'Mon Sep 16 1991 17:4215
"Amos" - Black & White angora type Manx - neutered, declawed and
about 4-6 yrs old. His owner was a 90 yr old woman who is
moving to FL to live w/family, and was told that the cat is not
welcome, period.

Amos is a real mush, very mellow. He is looking for an indoor
home (due to being de-clawed, of course).

4915.4Wink's story.....BOOVX2::MANDILEI love readin' & ridin'Mon Sep 16 1991 17:5014
Wink is a solid black, angora type neutered male.

Last Halloween (yes, you guessed it....) Wink was caught
by some not very nice person(s), and spray painted and kicked
in the face and body. His injuries have left him missing
some teeth, and blind in one eye. He was brought to the shelter
near death, severely injured, filthy and starving. Wink was
taken to the vets for medical care, which had to be stretched
over a period of time, as due to his poor condition, they were
afraid to put him under as he might not come out of it. Wink
is a friendly, if somewhat boney, approx. 3 yr old male. His
age has a lot to do with his recovery, but he still has a way
to go. Re-acurring diarrhea is his current health problem, but,
hopefully, with a little luck.....
