Hi, I'm wondering if there is anyone out there in a similar situation as myself and would like to work together for the betterment of our cats. I have one cat, Luther, who loves being around people and in most cases other cats. A year ago I had a roommate who had a cat, but do to her mismanagement of her cat I had to ask to leave. I think that for the brief time the other cat was in my home Luther got use to company...he get lonely during the day. It was also great because my roommate tended to work nights so Luth had company during the day. Unfortunately I just can't take on the added responsiblity of a second cat to keep him company. So what I'm looking for is someone who has a cat who is also lonely. My thoughts is to have the cats spend the work days together and we could share "cat sitting" responsiblities when the other owner needs to be away do to work or pleasure. Does this sound interesting to anyone? I live in Merrimack NH so the ideal person would be either in Merrimack or Nashua (I work at TTB). If interested please contact me directly at MRKTNG::WEBER nancy

I think the only drawback to your plan would be exposing your cat to someone elses. You'd need proof that it has been vaccinated against all infectious diseases and is felv negative. And even after all this is done there is still a risk because a cat can be a carrier of a virus without showing any overt signs of being ill. I don't think I would be willing to take that risk. It's different when the cats are your own and you're exposing them to one another... but even the best of friends (humans) could end up in a major argument should something happen to one of their cats while it is in the other's company. I don't mean to squelch your enthusiasm... you have a really neat idea. I'm just making you aware of the con side to give you a different perspective. While I am not aware of your financial situation [and it is none of my business :^)], there really isn't much of a monetary increase by adding a second cat. If you get one around the same age as your own that is already vaccinated, wormed and felv tested chances are you won't really notice a big dent in your budget. The major expenses with my five have been unexpected vet bills due to life-threatening illnesses.... and those circumstances were the exception, not the rule, and very unusual. Good luck in whatever decision you make!! --Roberta |
