4907.0. "Big Cats on Christmas cards..." by DELNI::JMCDONOUGH () Thu Sep 05 1991 13:38

First of all, I want to make clear that this is NOT an endorsment
or advertisement for any particular organization, but only a pointer to
something that I have found to be truely heartwarming and beautiful, so
I thought I'd share the source...

For the past 4 years, I have sent out Christmas Cards (Also can Be
purchased with "Happy Hanukkah"...) that I purchased from The National
    Wildlife Federation.

Every year these card have depicted one of the Big Cats with her
kittens/cubs. So far, they have been a Mountain Lion and her two
kittens, a Bobcat and her two kittens, and a tiger with her cub. There
also was a year with a Polar Bear and her cubs.

This year, I'm getting the current one.....a Snow Leopard lying
prone, facing you, with her kitten impishly draped over her neck, and
the most joyful expression of contentment on her face, eyes squinted
    shut in happiness.

Each of these pictures are paintings of the animals, and are
    exquisitely done...

If anyone is interested in knowing more...send me mail off-line...

I've already ordered the snow leopard before I saw your note -- it
really is a terrific card. A portion of the proceeds from what the NWF
sells goes to support their lobbying efforts to protect wildlife and
wildlife habitat. Although many years ago they were primarily formed
by hunters (agh), they have become a largely
animal/environmental/wilderness group and seem to do a lot of good
lobbying work in Washington. I often see the president of NWF quoted
    on tv news.

Another recommendation for National Wildlife cards and gifts in general!
Between NWF, World Wildlife Fund, Mass Audubon, and National Wildflower (did I
forget anyone?) it makes holiday shopping a lot easier in our house!

      Re .2
I was gonna suggest that if anyone has other sources to feel free to
input them here... NWF has super stuff, but there are many other
sources that have some neat stuff as well...

I'm just sort of "hung-up" on the NWF cards since I started with the
Cougar, Polar Bear and Bobcat over the last few years.. I look forward
to getting their package of literature to see what the new Big Cat will
be....I expect that Leopard, Lion, Tiger and Jaguar will follow....at
    least I hope so..

That "imp" face on the Snow Leopard kitten is priceless..

The ASPCA also sells Christmas cards. I have not gotten the info
for this year yet but will post it when I do.

4907.5MY CARDS CAME!!!!DELNI::JMCDONOUGHWed Sep 25 1991 14:3010
I just got my cards last evening....and they are even better than
I'd anticipated!!! The gold ink used to enhance the word "Peace" on the
front has 'flaked' just a tiny bit, and the little gold flakes have
stuck to some areas of the cub's fur, and te effect in a bright light
    is amazing...

       What a picture!!

I thought that gold flaking was by design....
