4899.0. "Looking for Himmie/Persian Adult kitty" by SALEM::HURLBURT () Tue Sep 03 1991 23:43

    Hi,

I'm looking for a companion for my 1 1/2 year old Himalayan (neutered
male). We would like another Himmie/Persian about his age. Beau is
good with other cats, but is lonely for companionship during the day.
He is an indoor cat but not declawed. I live in Nashua but would
be willing to travel to Mass.

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

Sorry I can't help but am interested in the Himalayan cat. What do
these types of cats look like ? I am based in Reading and have never
    heard of this breed.

    Cheers

In Europe, the Himalayan cats are called Colorpoint Longhairs. Maybe
that will ring a bell for you.

Himmies have the Persian type (cobby body, dome head, nose break) but
with blue eyes and colorpoints (blue, seal, chocolate, lilac, and
lynxpoints--lynx is a tabby pattern and can be in any of the four
colors). There are also Himmie hybrids... these are Himmies that have
been crossed with Persians. If someone talks about having an all black
Himmie, they probably have a hybrid.

"Pointed" means that the colors are restricted to the face, ears, legs,
    feet, and tail.

I have a blue, lynxpoint Himalayan and have already been in contact
with the base noter regarding where he came from since I know the
breeder has a few available cats in that age range.

I am a Himalayan breeder in Merrimack NH. How funny, I have a blue point
male named Beau also. Himalayans have become known for their wonderful
calm, affectionate personalities similar to Persian. I think thatis
what also makes them very popular. Although they require more attention
in the grooming department their docile nature makes the task of burshing
them (in most cases) a pleasure. All mine have baths and a blow dry on
a regular basis which they really don't seem to mind. This will also
help people that are prone to cat allergies, if their cats are bathed
regularly.

Speaking of allergies I would also like to mention that another nice
point about Himmys and Persians that I and many others have found to be
true, is that despite their long hair, many persons who have always been
troubled by cat allergies do not seem to be bothered by them with these
particular breeds.

I had always had problems with cat allergies. Most cats would trigger
and alergic reaction that would last for days just short of a trip to
the hospital.

If you would like to learn more about the breed I would suggest taking
in a local cat show and talking to the different Himalayan breeders you
can learn so much and most are happy to talk about their cats, I know I
do . Right Roberta?? (who talked her ear off at the last show)!!!!

Yeah, Valerie, but you had lots of helpful info to share!! :^).

Herbie doesn't have an aversion to being bathed; he doesn't like being
blow dryed and our scenario is to aim the dryer on him while he runs
around the bathroom like a maniac! He enjoys being combed... it's his
    favorite part of grooming.

Val's Beau is a gorgeous cat. What a body! He's built like Mel Gibson
:^).... but a lot cobbier! The blues are my favorite.

Val -- Rachel told me in her letter that ever since Gertrude's boy
cleaned up in Bedford she has had inquiries from all over the U.S.,
and even Hungary, for kittens. She said Gertrude has been working a
LONG time for this and has finally made a name for herself in the cat
fancy. I'd like to see you start working with the lynxpoints... you
probably wouldn't be able to shoo me away from your house when the
    kittens are born!
