4884.0. "Stray Friends..." by USPMLO::URBAN () Tue Aug 27 1991 12:01

At 2:00 this morning, Linus was running from window to window making
noise in the blinds and driving me crazy. So, I got up and looked out,
saw nothing, gave him a treat and went to bed. He kept this up all
night and at 5 this morning, he was in the window above my head cooing
and talking away. I've never seen him act like this before, so I got
up again and looked out the window. Well, there was a pretty little
white female stray cat sitting there staring at Li. And then I looked
closer and there was a little fluff ball sitting in front of her, and
then I saw on the stairs another little fluff ball. They were so cute
and so little and Linus was quite taken by them all I think. Usually
when strays are around, he gets all uptight, but not last night.
Anyway, I put out dry food for them, but they left before they saw it.
I have a feeling they hide all day and come out at night because I've
never seen them before. I know there are lots of strays near my apt.
because I caught 2 last fall that begged at my door, but none have done
    so since they left.

The thing is that I know I'm not going to be able to stand those little
babies out there when it starts getting cold. If, by some miracle, I
can catch them, does anyone know where I might take the kitties to have
them sold or given away? I really don't have the money to take them to
the vet's first and all that... I may try to catch the mom too, that
is, if I move and my new roommate doesn't mind... I don't know what to
do...I feel so bad for all the strays I see and wish I could take them
all... This is so distressing for me...this and all the other notes
about homeless cats... If I owned my own home, I swear I'd take them
    all...

    Thanx,

Oh yes, these little kitties are in Hudson, MA. They're pretty young
and looked to me like they've just learned to walk maybe a week or
    so...
4884.2I'VE SEEN HEATHER DO THIS TOO!CANYON::WARKMEISTERTue Aug 27 1991 12:487
Heather likes to run from window to window too! The first time we saw
her do this, she was conversing with Murphy, our neighbor's male cat.

Sometimes she will sit and watch birds through the sliding glass door.
She will try jumping up to attack them!

Di...my guess is that if they are out walking around with MOM...
they have to be more then one week old. The Mom kitty would not
let them wander at one week old.

This is a tough situation.....and all I can suggest is that you
put an Ad in the paper abour Found Mom/w kittens but I truly doubt
you'll get a response. Or you can call a local No-Kill Shelter...
but there is no guarentee that you will be able to place them
because most shelters are booked solid. Or you could find
a temporary home for them...and try to find a permanent home
through your local newspaper, your local vet, or this file.

These situations are so depressing....and this is how I ended up
with 8 cats and feed 2 more outdoor strays. My own cats keep
bringing me home more...it like they say "hey party at my house".

Good luck ...and please keep us posted. Maybe Linus needs atleast
one new friend to keep him company so he will stop looking out the
    window!!!

I know that this suggestion may not be considered a good one by
everyone but, a friend of mine had to place 10 kittens once and
was able to give them to a local pet store to place. I personally
am not crazy about the idea but as a last resort if you have a
pet store that is willing, it might work out okay.

Just FYI at one week old their eyes wouldn't even be open. They're
probably more like 4 weeks. That's when they can really start
    motoring around.

4884.6They come at 2 A.M.USPMLO::URBANWed Aug 28 1991 10:1530
    Hi again,

Oh, I meant they've probably been walking for a week or so...
Actually, they were back at 2 this morning. I'm such a light sleeper
that the little guys woke me up just romping around the tree outside my
window. So, I got some dry food and put it out the window...the
kitties were scared when they saw/heard me and scrambled up the side of
the tree--so cute!! They came down to see what I gave them...the mom
ate but I don't know if they did--maybe too little for dry? Well,
tonight I'll get some canned and put it out the window. If anyone saw
me at 2 in the morning dumping food out of my window, they'd think I
was nuts!! I can't leave a bowl or anything out there because my
landlord forbids it (he hates cats and I can only have Linus "until his
demise" than none) and it's on the side of the building that's totally
fenced in so I would have to walk way around to the farther gate...by
that time they'd be gone... Well, I'm sure they're not picky...I may
try to coax them over to the side of my apt. where the door is, that's
on the other side of the fence though. This will be nuts at 2 in the
morning...but maybe I'll get them to trust me after a while... I don't
think it would be even easy to catch the little ones now...they're
already afraid of me. I wonder if the Pet Store would take them...I
bet they'd be too frightened!! Poor things, I hope we have a warm
fall... Any ideas on shelters would be good. I know they're all full
but maybe after they get rid of some kittens and I can get these guys
to trust me enough to catch them they could go there. Linus talked to
them again last night to reassure them I think...

    Thanx,
