My kitten, Tasha, just loves the dog food I feed my puppy, but will not eat her
kitten food (I buy Iams puppy food and Iams kitten food). I either have to
stand over the dog while she eats so I can constantly pick the kitty up and
show her the kitten food or lock the cat in another room and listen to her
scream in protest. It's not like she eats a little dog food either, she'll
eat until she gets sick, then go back to more. Before I caught her at it she
was probably eating 2+ cups a day (she's only 2 1/2 months old). Of course,
the other side effect is the amount of cat litter I go through each day.
How bad is the dog food for the kitten?
How can I get her to eat her own food (it's easily accessible)?
Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I believe a steady diet of dog food is lacking some vital nutrient
cat's need. You might try a different type of cat food for her.
Otherwise I'd go with the screaming if the dog eats quickly enough so
that you don't go crazy.

to be more specific, cats require a nutrient, taurine, in order to stay ALIVE.
I am not exagerating on this...taurine helps regulate and maintain the heart.
Dogs do not require this nutrient and it does not exist in dog food. If your
cat is eating dog food, it certainly isn't getting enough cat food - and that
is very bad. Separate them at feeding times and feed them both at the same
time....when the dog finishes, remove the food dish. IF the cat refuses to
eat the kibble you serve now, try MAX cat...some cats prefer it. Whatever
you do, make sure your cat is not filling up on dog food - cat food is
necessary for health....and an overly picky cat will eat good cat food - if
she/he gets hungry enough....8^}

Cat food is also much higher in protein than dog food.
