I was just talking to my vet about a bowel concern for my kitten. (see note 2999.11) While I was talking to her I mentioned the hot weather and my kitten in the pool. She suggested not doing this because some cats are allergic to the clorine and could cause a rash. She suggested using a seperate pool with fresh tap water instead. Just to let you know incase you were also considering cooling off your kitty. Joyce &Iris p.s. Iris wasn't too upset about the water. Then again it was very hot and she wasn't in it very long. (quick dip to wet fur.)

in extremely hot weather like you in the NE and MW have been experiencing, I suggest you take a wet wash cloth and wet down the head between the ears on down the back of the head to the neck area of your cats. You will obviously have fans going, and with the wet fur evaporating in the breeze, the cats will be significantly cooler. It has always worked for my cats and dogs during scorchers. Just be sure that you avoid getting water in the cat's ears...just wet down the head. The cats will be noticably more comfortable. If the heat is really bad, and your cat enjoys sleeping belly-up, you can also wet down the belly fur. |
