4802.0. "RIP: Marian N - 16 years old" by ELWOOD::PRIBORSKY (I'd rather be rafting) Thu Jul 18 1991 14:57

I guess it's time to mention the passing of our other "old" cat, a
Himalayan. Marian N (named after a dear family friend, who herself was
a somewhat eccentric "cat lady") was almost 16 years old. We called
her "Meowie" because of her distinct (and quite lady-like) voice. She
    was euthanized last week.

She was a Himalayan. When we got her (in Phoenix) Himmies were still
quite rare, and we bred her for about two years. We moved to Colorado
Springs, and since no suitable studs were were around, we had her
    spayed.

She'd had a stroke about 2 hears ago. (Cats are remarkably resilient
    - the only thing she couldn't do was jump up on the bed.) In the last
month she'd been wetting in places she shouldn't (bathroom rugs).
Took her to the vet, who diagnosed a urinary infection and warned of
kidney disease. Medicine shook the infection, but then she wouldn't
eat, and a return trip to the vet showed that the kidneys were
atrophieing at an advanced rate (just over the week). The doctor said
it would be "maintenance" from now on, and we decided that it wasn't
fair to her to put up with the pain that would have led to the
    inevitible anyway.

After Dolly passed away last year (3698) Meowie was our only cat.

Now, we're looking for two Himmies, although I'm goign to take my time
for just the right kittens (I can't wait, Valerie!).

I think you must love Marian very much to be able to let her go and
be at peace. You are very brave.

I have added the name Marian N. to the Silver Lining Memorial list.
