         We have just collected our two cats from the local cattery after 
         being away on holiday for 16 days.  They have stayed here
    	 a few  times before but only for a week at a time.
         
         Penny and Boris both seem fit and healthy but I have just noticed 
         that the hair around Penny's eyes, which was chocolate brown 
         before we went away, now has gray flecks in it and it makes her 
         look old.  She is just 2 though.
         
         Everything else about her is normal.  She is eating well, sleeping 
         well, playing with Boris (her brother) and catching mice so I 
         really don't think there can be anything wrong physically.
         
         Is it possible that she may have missed us and thought we had 
         abandoned her and this caused the fur to go gray - a bit like a 
         shock reaction?  I know that humans can go gray overnight in 
         extreme shock cases but I never heard of it happening to a cat.
         
         Has anyone else ever seen this happen or know what it might be?
         
         Any thoughts/suggestions gratefully appreciated.

	Is she Siamese? I've seen this on my sealpoint when he was stressed. If this is the case, it should go away on its own now that she's back in her own environment. Sandy

	She's actually a sealpoint British Shorthair - let's hope this is the cause and that it will go away on its own. Thanks for your help! Jenny

	Guess what? Our Boris is grey all over too!! We also call him Yeltz for short (as in Boris Yeltzine!) Any other Boris's out there?? Jenny

	What did they feed her at the cattery? Was it different from her normal diet. That might have caused the change.

	Since she is a siamese, it is most likely just ticking that you are seeing. The gene that controls point color is a thermal gene, and can also be affected by body temperature, and atmospheric temperature. Things that can cause ticking in the point color are stress, high fever, general illness, hot weather, and some types of medications. Ticking is not serious, and it will go away on it's own. Jo

	Hi, Just to let you know that the grey hairs are just starting to go away, and new brown hairs are growing. She looks so much better now! We've decided that next year when we go on holiday we'll get a friend to 'cat sit' in our home rather than send our two to a cattery as we're convinced that it was stress that caused the problem. Anyway, Penny is fine now. Thanks for your advice. Jenny
