Thanks for caring and stopping like you did. Its nice to know
there are so many caring folks in this world. We need them all.
This issue has been discussed many many times in this file as you
can probably imagine. I will only say that often people don't
realize that they've hit something. I was the witness to the
death of a squirrel in Southboro ctr yesterday on the way to
work. And the guy who hit the squirrel was heading for MR04.
There really wasn't anything he could have done. The squirrel
ran right under his right wheel. I was really really angry
with the driver for not at least hitting his brakes until I
realized that the squirrel ran in from the left side of the
road and while I had a clear view of it, the driver probably
had no idea he'd ever killed anything. I still felt bad
about the squirrel, but I wasn't angry with the driver any more.
That's not always the case and there are plenty of awful
stories in this file about people deliberately hitting animals
but unless you've seen it happen, its alot easier on you to
assume it was an accident. Your mental anguish isn't going to
change anything.

A few months ago I picked up a beautiful white kitty from Rt 37
near my house. I have the same reaction to that spot.

Two years ago my friend, who was at Tufts Vet school, stopped to pick up a
kitten that had been hit. There was a lot of traffic and no one would stop
for her - the kitten was in the middle of the lane so all the cars were
driving over the kitten, luckily not cruching it with their tires. When
she finally got to the poor thing, she found it was still alive! She
brought it to Tufts clinic and they patched him up and found a home for him.
Thanks to all of you who stop to check -
