4696.0. "Loves them old movies..." by DELNI::JMCDONOUGH () Wed Jun 05 1991 12:17

As I came into my house last night, I heard voices....since there
was NOONE home, as I was first last night...I became a bit startled ant
my immediate thought was "JEEZ!! Burglers!!" If I'd have thought a bit
clearer, I'd have realized that the dogs were not upset nor agitated,
so it couldn't have been burglers unles it was a burgler that we know
    well...

Upon further investigation, I found that the voices were coming from
the bedroom...and when I looked in, there was "Stormy"(the little
TWERP!), sitting on top of the T.V., clamly watching old movies by
looking at them upside down!! Guess with her playing she'd hit the
button on the cable box, which the T.V. is attached to the box...so she
must have hit the button and turned on the set...

(At least she wasn't watcing "soaps"!!)

4696.2SANDY::FRASERMonsters remonstrated...Wed Jun 05 1991 14:239
I can relate to the base note :^} One morning I was quietly
getting ready for work, and I hadn't yet heard Andy get up.
All of a sudden, I heard voices too! I called out of the
bathroom to see if Andy had come downstairs without my noticing,
but there was no reply. I sort of slunk into the living room
only to find the TV blaring - someone had walked on the remote
	control :^}

The very reason I leave all my remote controls turned upside down. Granted,
that doesn't stop Josh from hitting the power switch as he jumps to the top of
the TV, but he's never on the TV unless it's on, anyhow.

We're convinced that one of our monsters 'sat' on our VCR
remote and even though it wasn't on the connection was
still there. Therefore a brand new battery was worn down
to useless. Needless to say we try not to leave the remotes
lying around where they can get to them.

Tim has a clock radio on his night stand and instead of buttons
or knobs it has a soft pad about 3"x4" with the options you
    can have. On/Off - Sleep/Snooze - Radio/Alarm etc. You use the
tip of your finger to press the option you want. Well needless
to say Mocha was the first on to discover this and Mr. Miyagi
next. Great fun in the middle of the night turning on the radio,
and better yet turning off the alarm so Tim over sleeps on his
golf mornings. Good thing I don't rely his alarm but have my own.

Tim has gone to work by the time I arrive home and I hear voices
and always hope it's Tim radio and it is. This doesn't happen
all the time, just often enough for you to forget inbetween times.

It never entered my mind about the remotes. Thankfully no one
    has discoverd them yet.

not a cat story, but....

years ago, my dobe Venus gained the ability to turn on the TV by shaking her
head vigorously - her tags on her collar delivered just the right tone to
start it up. As this was not on cable, the TV came on properly to the last
station watched....and stayed on. She could also change channels by shaking
her head. Both my roommate and I thought we were going crazy...leaving the
TV on without remembering it...until the night Venus stood up, shook her
head thereby changing the channel, and walked out of the living room to go
to bed...I missed the end of my mystery because I was so flabergasted I just
sat there and stared.

I removed a couple of old tags that I had neglected to remove when adding
new tags to her collar and the problem went away...

The cats then had to learn to turn on the tube themselves...which they
promptly did by walking on the remote control.

I think this story is in here somewhere already, but briefly again...

I went to an out of town cat show with a friend, and we were sharing a
room. We settled our cats in the room, turned the TV on for them for
company, and then went down to dinner. This motel offered a couple of
choices of movies for an additional charge. You could watch the movie
by pressing a button on top of the TV, but if you didn't like it, you
could turn it off within the first 10 minutes without being charged.

My friend and I came back to the room and found our cats engrossed in
an x-rated movie!! One of the cats must have walked across the top of
the TV and activated the adult channel. I called the front desk and
explained to them that the cats had turned it on, not me, and after
several jokes about kitty perverts, and subsequent howls of laughter
subsided, they took the charge off my hotel bill. :^) I guess they
figured that was too far out for me to have made up on my own.

We've learned to move the remotes or we end up recording shows other
than those we set the VCR up for.

I often come home to find the "kids" watching MTV or Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtles. For all I know they COULD be watching the soaps but
they're all over by the time I get home (thank God! ;^) now WHY
don't they turn on the discovery channel or the learning channel
and make productive use of their time!

Of course, they haven't figured out how to activate the sound yet
so I suppose its a mute point.

4696.9Cookie likes football...DELNI::JMCDONOUGHThu Jun 06 1991 10:0510
Come to think of it, my cats and dogs both love nature shows...but
Cookie is a football fan...especially the New York Giants... All she
has to hear is a Giants game and she parks herself in front of the set
and sits there with her little head going back and forth following the
action...and occasionally a tiny paw comes up and tries to take out a
running back or wide receiver... ONLY the Giants get her full attention
though...we were thinking of writing the coach and telling him about
    his smallest and furriest fan..

Re .8:

Well, it appears you could make good use of the "parental control" feature of
the cable box to make sure your "kids" get only the "good stuff" :-) :-)
