| Sandy,
Do a show key/full constipation and see if that helps with some
remedies. I haven't used Catalax, but have seen it for sale in the
vet's office.
The things that I can think of that would loosen the stool are the
mineral oil (small amount given daily), KMR, canned food.

| This sounds like what happened to my cat Sweetie. The surgical vet
said to keep him on Metamucil forever. It seems to work well. I
put a small amount in his food each morning, about one-eighth of
a teaspoon. You probably want to try a given amount for several days
to see if it needs to be adjusted. I use the non-flavored, no-sugar
kind of Metamucil. Also, it goes in Holly's and Little Bit's food
as well; the vet said this was the way to solve the problem of
Sweetie not getting the Metamucil because they all eat out of each
other's dishes, and that it wouldn't hurt them.
I would, of course, ask your vet about this before doing it.

4677.3 | Non-flavored, of course....... | BOOVX1::MANDILE | I could never kill a skeet! | Fri May 24 1991 13:55 | 11 |
| I have a cat that is on "Metamucil" for the rest of
his life...he has a constriction in the bowel that
makes it difficult for him to "go". I just mix it
in with the canned food and an equal amount of water
(3 oz can, 3 oz water, 6 oz can....) and he has had
no problems for over a year now.
I buy a generic brand, though, as the brand names are
sometimes 2-3 dollars more. K-mart puts out their own
brand, and it works fine! :-)

| How much metamucil do you give him each day, Lynne? That
info might help the base noter.

| Re .4 - Oops, sorry....this cold has me partially braindead
today!
1 teaspoon for a 6 oz can, 1/2 for a 3 oz can. I feed dry
free choice all day and canned twice a day. All four of
mine share the Metamucil mix canned food.
This mixes up well in the blender, too. (looks pretty
disgusting, though! :-))

4677.6 | Kat-A-Lax Endorsement | SCRUZ::CORDES_JA | Set Apartment/Cat_Max=3 | Sat May 25 1991 02:16 | 9 |
| I have used Kat-A-Lax on my cats for hairball prevention and it
works just fine. They also love the taste. I believe it is malt
flavored. I was originally looking for Laxatone when I picked it
up but it worked just as well. I've been looking for it again
lately and the only thing Premium Pet Mart had was Petromalt
(which the cats also love...no finicky cats in this house).
