4665.0. "Help name a copper eyed white turkish angora!" by POWDML::TAYLOR (Owned by Sweetie, CFF BEST ALTER) Tue May 21 1991 17:21

Well, call me crazy, but I'm adding ANOTHER baby to my clan of already
    seven.

This is a 25th birthday present from a friend. She's a top show
quality, copper eyed white turkish angora. For those of you who don't
know, they're long haired, wedge shaped head, big ears, long bodies.
    Very "regal" looking cats.

I'm looking for a name for her. The cattery name is "Raham's". Her
mother's name is "Crystal Sprite" and her father's name is "Ozzi-cat".

I need kind of a "regal" type name for her. So far, I've come up with
    the following:

    "Raham's Chantilly Lace"

Any other ideas?? PLEASE!! I NEED SUGGESTIONS!!!

    thanks!

    HOlly

is this a turkish van??? I've seen one at the vets - what a beauty she was!
the owner said she LIKES the water! and will swim if allowed into the tub.
Now THAT'S a different cat!

I wish I knew turkish words for cat, beautiful, princess, etc. That might
be somewhere to start with the name....or, if she turns out anything like
my Javanese Princess has, try naming her "Hurricane ______" - it'll fit.
these long-haired, wedge headed wonders can be little spitfires.

Congratulations on the addition to the family -- what's one more?

    Sweetie's Turkish Delight :-)

4665.3Oh boys, another one..SOLVIT::IVESWed May 22 1991 11:1922
I am so glad to hear of someone else who has one of these
beauties. My daughter and her husband have a Turkish Angora
AND a Turkish Van. Not absolutely sure of pedigree but the one's
in the cat books look EXACTLY like their two.

Holly and Michael's kitties are both boys. The Angora is Azrael
and he has the nestest little tufts of hair coming out of his head
by his ears and it hangs down like earrings. What a love he is and
BIG. Nakota is the Van and he is the quiet one but BIG also. They
seem to have very different personalities from other cats. Azreal
is a real peoples cat, while Nakota is more shy and is a loner more
    or less.

I hope you will keep us posted on your baby and I will pass the
stories along to Holly and Michael.

I like Karen's suggestion for a name. Call her Delight for short
and she will surley reflect your feelings for her.

By the way, for you youngsters, Turkish Delight was a candy bar,
which I haven't seen in years, so I assume the company went out of
business. It was white, and sort of like extremely hard taffy. I've
seen Turkish Delight sold in Middle Eastern food stores, but it's
some totally different confection from the candy bar -- something
based on an apricot filling if I remember correctly (I
    probably don't).

4665.6Or were they called Dentists' Delight?PROSE::GOGOLINWed May 22 1991 14:5711
Re: .5, Turkish Delight candy bars

Ah, yes, I recall seeing Turkish Delights -- I think it was in an
antique candy museum. :-) :-) Just kidding, Karen -- my teeth well
remember that hard-but-sticky candy. I think they are now selling a
form of it under the name Crazy Glue.

I think Turkish Delight would be a great name for an affectionate
Turkish Angora kitty that "sticks" to you.

Well, I don't think I can use that name. It's great (and even though
I'm a "youngun" I still remember Turkish Taffy!! I LOVED the Vanilla
and the chocolate!!), but I think there might be some kind of rule
about using the name of the breed in the name of the cat.

any other suggestions for names, everyone??

    thanks.

What is the name of the person who is giving you the cat? How bout a
name that commemorates that it is your birthday, and that this friend
gave this cat to you. I have a friend who got a cat from a friend. My
friend named the cat Victoria's Secret since her friend Vicki surprised
    her with it. :^)

Choose a name--why? I have perfectly good names for my cats but
they don't come when I call no matter what name it is.

E.G. Names that one cat turns a deaf ear to: Charlemange, Charlie,
Chuckie Cheese, Chuckie Cheese straw (changed to ball as
he grew fatter), The all American Chuckster, Chunkie Monkey

If only I could reproduce the sound of a chicken liver falling to
the floor I would suggest that for your kitty's name. It gets my
    cats attention every time.

4665.24Kyra the wonder turkey! (-:POWDML::TAYLORBest friends with a turkey!Mon Jun 17 1991 13:1434
Well, she's finally arrived!! It's Raham's Kyra of Taliea Manor. We
went to pick her up this weekend!

First, if anyone has a soft spot for longhaired cats but really wants
an active cat, let me suggest a Turkish angora!! They are absolutely
beautiful!! And they DO come in ALL colors!!

Kyra is SO cute!! She's just four months old (today as a matter of
fact!) and is a holy terror!! She can already jump to my waist! And
she has learned the "Turkey death grip" on any teaser we have! (-:

The funniest thing she's done so far was with a teaser!! We stayed the
weekend at the breeder's house in New York. We had Kyra in our room
and I was playing with her with the teaser. Well, she was running out
of breath so I hit the teaser under the blanket. She was too smart for
that, though!! She looked at me for a minute as if to say, "What'd you
do that for??" and then dove under the blanket to get the teaser. (-:
Well, I thought I'd outsmart her and distract her bit and then put the
teaser in the suitcase! I made one slight mistake and left the
suitcase top unzipped! She layed on the bed for a while and just let
me pet her. As I was getting ready to go take a shower, she jumped
over to the suitcase. The next thing I knew, she was completely INSIDE
the suitcase! She jumped out, teaser in mouth, QUITE proud of herself!
    (-:

I'm sure that there will be MANY more stories about KYRA the TURKEY!!
    (-:

Thanks everyone for suggestions of names. We finally decided to name
her Kyra after one of the seven meuses (sp??). One of Zeus's
    daughters.

4665.27Family traits..?SOLVIT::IVESMon Jun 17 1991 16:5511
Must be a Turkish Angora trait. That is what my daughter's van
does. He would kill for the toy of his choice which is HIS
sparkler. Holly has to keep it in the pantry on the top
shelf so Azriel (sp) doesn't get worn out chasing it or hitting
the other cats in the face with the end of the stick as he walks
around with it in his mouth. Holly just recently was able to buy
25 of these for 75 cents each and did just that.

Enjoy you little new one, they grow up so fast.

Well, Kyra has a new favorite toy.

Are you ready for this?? BUBBLES!!!! (-:

She is SO funny!! I'll blow the bubbles and she jumps after them.
Then when she hits one, she can't figure out why it disappears. Last
night when I was blowing bubbles for her, there was a blanket on the
floor and some of them landed on the blanket. Since the blanket is
soft, they didn't pop when they landed. She POUNCED on them and they
popped as soon as she touched them. It is the FUNNIEST thing to see!!

But she DID get smart, though!! She decided to look UNDER the blanket
for them! (-: What a riot!!

    Holly

4665.31Bubbles Are Great!SANFAN::FOSSATJUFri Jun 21 1991 13:448
The bubbles don't stick too well to tile but if you blow them in a
carpeted room they will stick - and then the cats sneek up to them and
stare for a while and then - bam! poof! el gone-0. We blow them up on
our deck - which is all enclosed - and it's a riot to watch the three
of them chasing bubbles in the wind.

4665.33Turkish word for cat is "kedi"SELECT::BRUCEIt is the Adventurers who accomplish great things.Thu Jun 27 1991 17:2218
Just in case someone else would be naming another Turkish Angora, I checked
with a Turkish friend of mine, Bahar, and here's what she said:

The Turkish name for cat is kedi (which is pronounced like kadhi).
This is what Leena says. "e" is pronounced like in Figen (my sister).
The name of Figen's cat is Savas, which is pronounced like Savash.
John pronounces it very well, if you wanna hear.

Bahar

FYI - Figen's cat is _very_ active, and not so much playful as a fighter,
known for slashing the hands of friendly strangers... Savas is "war"!
