| Lisa, I'm not sure if they are actually set hidden. It's more like
they got blasted out of the ethernet or something. Usually a set
hidden note will prompt the reader that it is set hidden.

| There are definitely 3 notes with replies set hidden. Enquiring minds

Lisa.

| My guess is that either the basenote or the reply made a statement
against notes policy in which either an outright accusation or
an insinuated one concerning a person or product or shelter, which
may be considered "defamation" and could cause legal ramifications
to Digital.

| I know that one that is now set hidden was originally set no write
because someone found the topic offensive. One of the other hidden was
I think probably fell under the same thing, offensive to a reader. As
for the others I have no idea. I don't remember the base notes.

| One note string was set hidden due to content that violated Digital
Notesfile policy. Several other topics have been moved to more
appropriate topics. If any of the readership of this file have
questions about Digital Notes policy, I invite them to read note #1.

| By the way, when we hide notes, we usually give an explanation, and we
try to give it in a timly fashion. When a note is hidden, it will
indeed give you a little message right below the NOTES> prompt. There
are not all that many notes that have been hidden. There are some
"holes" in the file, though, that are there because of quirk in the
server user on the VAXWRK cluster (a field test server, I believe). For
some reason when an entire string of notes is moved, there is a
directory entry left. This is a bug and (unless you are a NOTES
developer) nothing that you should spend any time worrying about.

4617.8 | Thanks for the explanation ... | XNOGOV::LISA | Give quiche a chance | Mon May 13 1991 05:23 | 10 |
| I started this note because I saw hidden notes without explanation.
There is now plenty explanation - here and elsewhere ;-) My curiosity
has been satisfied.
Thanks,
Lisa.
