4608.0. "Hyperactive kitty!" by BTOVT::MUNROE_R (i want my mommy!) Fri May 03 1991 11:31

    Hi!

One of my 2 cats (sisters who are now 11 months old and have been fixed
for 5 months now) is becoming more and more hyperactive lately. I live
    in a medium-size condo.

Double, the hyperactive cat, now, in the afternoon and evening hours
has taken to running around *a lot*, and staring up into the corners of
any room she's followed me into. While staring, she cries loudly--
sort of like she's in heat. Snuzzy, her more couch-potato sister,
just lounges around and probably doesn't play with her enough.

This has really increased over the last week. THere are 2 possible
changes in lifestyle which may be causing her restlessness. 1) a week
ago I brought both to my parent's home for the weekend where my folks
have a rather nasty 5-month old male (to be fixed soon) kitten. Double
and "Streaky" fought quite a bit and Snuzzy just ignored the whole
thing. 2) About 5 days ago I took each outside on leash. That seemed
like a lot of stimulation for them: "Wow mom! We're outside with the
big cats!" I can't take them out every day, though.

Is it just spring fever? Any ideas?

    thanks!

My guess is that she has had a taste of the "outside" and
that's what she wants. All winter long I kept my four
    little ones in...and it didn't bother them...springtime
came and we brought them out for awhile...well now
they sit at every door/window crying to go back out.

I wished I never started this!

Sounds like a combination of the "spring crazies" and enjoying
the outside. I suggest you take them out on the leash when
possible and also spend some time playing with them each evening
with a kitty-tease or similar toy. That will help burn off the
extra energy and the exercise will be good for them.
