4590.0. "Omlette For Mushroom" by SUBURB::MARSHC () Thu Apr 25 1991 12:41

    Help !!!

    I live in the Reading area and have been looking for a kitten
    to pal up with my year old monster Mushroom, up until now I've
    had no joy, I would like a long haired kitten if I can get
    hold of one, colour doesn't really matter although I wouldn't
    mind a blue one !!! Does anyone know of a breeder of Chinchilla's
    or if any Poor old moggy is expecting or had any recently ?? I am
    desperate and Mushroom is very lonely !!!

    Please anybody...........I want a Kitten called Omlette for Mushroom !!

    If it isn't too far away...Please call Priscilla from Pat
    Brody Memorial Shelter which is in Lunenburg. You would be
    in your glory...there are long/short hair cats of all ages,
    there is also about 23 kittens just recently born.

    There are some gorgeous looking cats...I'm sure you could find
    the Omlette of your choice!! Priscilla's #508-582-4539.

    Good luck....Sandy
4590.2Where have all the kittens gone ...XNOGOV::LISAGive quiche a chanceThu Apr 25 1991 12:5511
    I have just called Christine (she is in the UK by the way ....)

    As usual, there are no kittens in the UK! All the shelters are empty!
    It is sooooo frustrating to see all the ads from the US. I think the
    last ad for a UK kitty up for adoption was over a year ago.

    I am about to contact some people to see what I can do ....

    Lisa.

    Oh well...I guess it's too far away!!! I thought it was
    Reading, Mass.

    It's sad that there are so many kitties over here.....but none
    over there. Wish I could be of more help!!

    How is it that the UK seems to not have a cat overpopulation problem?
    Is it that people are really responsible about neutering?

4590.5No kittens (again!)XNOGOV::LISAGive quiche a chanceFri Apr 26 1991 06:0011
    There are plenty of adult cats that need adopting, but there always
    seems to be a shortage of kittens. Before we got Rolf (our Aby), we
    searched for a shelter kitten. There just weren't any! Out of
    desparation we decided to go for a pedigree - glad we did ;-) Last
    night I called several people that I know take in strays - no kittens!

    Most people I know that have cats make sure that they get
    spayed/neutered. I think this is the "normal" thing to do in the UK,
    but there are exceptions!

    Lisa.
4590.6Very Sad MushroomSUBURB::MARSHCFri Apr 26 1991 07:219
    I feel rather silly looking for a kitten when it was only a week ago I
    had Mushroom done !!! But according to everyone it was the best thing
    to do since there were so many homeless kitties, but we also had the
    problem that she was so mad.....I have never known such a batty cat !!

    Oh well, here's hoping !! Thanks everyone !!

	The RSPCA no in Reading is 0734 352066

	The cat protection league is 0734 429841

	Try some vets, they might be able to help - Valley Vets in Pangbourne
	0734 - 843221, or Castle Hill vets in Tilehurst 0734 - 574488.

	I'll keep my eyes open, but there are always queues for kitties, the
	best thing to do is spread the word around friends, I'll ask around.
	 - have you thought about putting a "wanted" notice up in DECpark?

	Good luck,
	Heather

    Are there any local farms that might have kittens out there?
4590.9Farm FeralsSUBURB::MARSHCFri Apr 26 1991 10:227
    Yes, Many local farms have kittens due in about a week, the majority
    of them turn out feral cats and are very wild in nature. However my
    boyfriends sister has four ferals out of her nine cats and they seem
    to get on very well with the others, although tend to be very timid
    when it comes to us humans !!!

    Thanks for everones help - especially Lisa & Thelma - my family is now
    complete.

    My Godness, I wrote to tell you of Omlette only 4 hours ago and already
    she has been to the vet...I have just taken her for a check up in my
    lunch break to find she has a bunged up rear !!! She has had 1
    injection, a bottle of vitamins, liquid medicine to take and no food
    but for boiled rice and water until he sees her again tommorow night !!

    Poor Kitty !! I hope I will have lots of stories, it doesn't look to
    good at the moment !!

4590.14Congratulations!CSSE::MANDERSONTue May 07 1991 11:0612
    I do hope Omlette is feeling much better. Our Tiffany got the 'runs'
    (severely) and was dehydrated about a week after adopting her. She had
    a rough time of it for a couple of days but managed to pull through with
    flying colors.

    I keep reading how difficult it is in your Country to adopt kittens so
    I am very happy to read that you found your new baby.

    Good luck to you and give her a (gentle) hug for me!

    Please let us know how Omlette is doing. My Sweetie had a
    "bunged up rear" from a car accident before I got him, and
    although it was very worrisome and required a delicate operation,
    he is now fine.

4590.18Omlette sounds like a sweetheart!MCIS2::HUSSIANBut my cats *ARE* my kids!!Tue May 07 1991 17:579
    Yes, Holly, I'd say so!! You didn't mention that Sweetie is more than
    just FINE! He's a PRIZE WINNER!! (see the "something to brag about"
    note for details!!)

    I'm happy to hear you've found a kitty in the UK!! CONGRATULATIONS!!

    I sure hope the little guy is OK!! Please keep us posted!!

    Well, Last night, Omlette was in top form and driving me nuts. Her
    diet of rice and white meat doesn't seem to suit and she keeps darting
    into the kitchen to see if she can't get away with eating Mushroom's
    'normal' dinner !!! I can't believe how lively she is for such a small
    creature, at the size of a postcard (in 3 di') she is now
    climbing the sofa, the beds, the stairs......Help !!!!

    Anyway she's due back at the vet tonight so I'll let you know if she's
    well and truely fit tommorow morning....I have a feeling she is
    somehow.

    Ah ... sounds like home. All seven of mine are remarkably agile
    these days. Tiffany climbed the screen yesterday. Now mind you,
    the screen doesn't start until about 2.5 ft or so off the ground
    so she had to jump up that high first! She's going to be a little
    hellion, I can tell.

    Sounds like Omlette is going to keep you and Mushroom vveerrrrryyyyy
    busy.  :^)

    What can I say, This weekend was mad......every five seconds we had to
    chase Omlette out of the kitchen to stop her from eating Mushrooms cat
    food !! The worst part is now my boyfriend wants to get a dog too.
    And guess what he want to call it.....yes Chips. There will be men in
    whate coats waiting to grab when I'm calling them all in....

    Mushroom !!!....Omlette !!...& Chips....people will be lining up for
    dinner outside me front door !!

    I used to stand at the front door and call the cat (mimicking my
    mothers sing-song soprano cat call voice) to come in, summer times she
    just doesn't want to leave her tree so I would have to call quite a
    bit. One night a neighbor was walking up to her front door and turned
    around and said, "if you gave her a decent name she'd come home".
    Well, 10 years later I'm still doing it and the cats name is the
    same...

    On the same day I got Omlette my friends, Phil & Paula got 2 kittens.
    Phil happens to be a boxing fan so when his kitty decided it would hiss
    and swear and through a couple of punches at the other kittie he called
    it HOLY FIELD SPITZ, the other was such a little scruffy thing Paula
    called it GIZMO.

    Mushroom & Omlette are preetttty tame don't you think ??
