| Ha ha...the famous loose a tooth story. This is normal for kittens
between ages 5-7 months. I'm laughing because the first time I
saw this...panic set in...I was a total basket case. Why is my
cat loosing his teeth...is he sick? Well I called my vet and
again....he laughed and told me it was normal and that he has never
seen such a worry wart of a Mom!!!! They are considered baby teeth!
Don't worry...Sandy

| The first time I freaked out as well. Then when I checked out his
mouth I noticed double teeth - one in front of the other. I was lucky
enough to find one tooth from each of my cats so I put them in the photo
album with the kitten pictures. My Siamese, Gino, cut his baby teeth
on a roll of paper towels. I came home to find the paper towels torn
to shreads on the kitchen floor with blood on them and sure enough
under the pile of paper I found THE TOOTH - he did the same thing with
the second one!

| Yes, I spent plenty of time picking up kitten teeth, puppy
teeth, and even horse teeth. I still have a horse tooth :-)

| Oh, yes...with a litter it's even more fun...you find 'em all over
the house...sometimes when you sit on the sofa you find them...OUCH!!
It's a panic when one sticks--and it points out at a right angle for
a half day or so...
Actually, I have had the bad experience with my little "Cookie"
where she lost one of her ADULT CANINE teeth!! What she did I'llnever
know, but the Vet says he thinks she either fell or something fell on
her...(She has been seen on occasion on TOP of the refrigerator...and
their isn't anything REAL close to it...so I think she was trying to
imitate "The Flying Wallenda's" some day and missed... What she did was
break the tooth off...and the problem then was that the half-tooth had
an exposed nerve. Another problem with this is her size. If this was a
German Shepherd, you simply have the tooth pulled...but with a kitty
jaw, there is the distinct danger that the jaw could be inadvertantly
broken if too much pressure were applied. So Cookie had to live with
the half-tooth for about a month, until it naturally loosened and the
vet was then able to extract the stump with no problem...
But there still is a minor problem...with the canine tooth missing,
she sometimes catches her lip on the LOWER large tooth!(Stomach tooth
I think it's called..Gee..I just looked it up in the dictionary and I
was right..) When she does this, she looks sillier than the dickens
with her lip wrinkled into her mouth.. The danger here is that she
COULD create a sore fromthe tooth, but so far she's been O.K....
No problem with those baby teeth though... In fact, I LOVE to look at
the front teeth of cats--especially kittens....they are so teeny-tiny
and look so cute...almost not real..

| Re: .4
If Cookie's tooth stump had been healthy enough to be saved, she could
have had a root canal to avoid getting the subsequent sore on her
lower lip from the absence of the tooth. This is something that
vets have evidentally figured out fairly recently -- and why Sweetie
had a root canal....

| I think my vet did consider this, but the tooth was broken almost at
the base, so he elected to go this way since the potential of the sore
would have been there anyway. She has shown no difficulty with it so
far...like last night...she was sitting in front of "HER" dog, Teddy,
washing his face very thoroughly while he was lieing there eating it
up... She just looks sort of "off-kilter" when the lower tooth catches
her upper lip.
