| Cheryl,
Right now there is a moratorium on new clubs in CFA. That is just
until the board of directors can come up with some guidelines for
establishing a club's territory.
But, if you want to form a club, you need to call CFA and tell them
that you want to start a new club, and ask them to send you an
application. You have to have at least 10 people that are interested
before you can apply. You have to sit down, pick officers, and write a
constitution for your new club. You have to list the purpose of your
club, what you intend to accomplish (if you want to put on shows, etc.)
what type of club you will be (breed specific or allbreed club), etc.
Then you send that in to Craig Rothermel with the appropriate fees and
he will review the application and if it is in order, he will present
it to the board at the next directors meeting.
It is really helpful if you are just starting out to have at least one
club member who is very familiar with CFA and it's workings.
I have often thought of maybe creating a DEC cat club but logistically
it would be difficult. The problem would be that right now the only
national clubs that CFA has are breed specific. I have put the idea on
hold until the board completes their study.
For any of you that are interested in the discussion of the board
regarding clubs, the minutes of the Feb. board meeting are listed in
the April edition of the Almanac. Quite interesting.

| Thanks for the information! My husband and I met Craig Rothermel the last
show we were at. We were quite impressed with his knowledge of specific
breeds!
If there is some way to get a Digital club started, I'd be interested
in joining! I can be in charge of the DC branch!
Thanks again,
Cheryl and crew

Well, gee, wouldn't a cat club establish its territory the same way
cats do? 8-) 8-) 8-)

4565.4 | Cat clubs don't spray! Well, most don't ;^) | WR2FOR::CORDESBRO_JO | set home/cat_max=infinity | Tue Apr 23 1991 19:48 | 22 |
| hehehehehe :^D :^D
Actually, that is what is happening now, the clubs are fighting for
territory and there are a lot of unhappy clubs, and CFA is trying to
come up with a policy that is equitable for all clubs. Currently, a
club's region of residence would be that region in which the club
secretary resides. Currently there is no rule that keeps a club from
one geographical region from holding a show in another.
One problem is that if a club's secretary moves from one region to
another, effectively the club relocates as well. That leaves a lot of
unhappy club members. Most can't move with the club secretary. :^)
Also, there is a lot of competition in some regions for show weekends,
and if a club from out of the area decides to hold a show there, they
can step on a lot of other club's toes and there is nothing those clubs
can do about it. (did I make myself cleasr on that?).
Anyway, for the current status of CFA clubs, check the April edition of
the Almanac. The discussion is in the minutes of the last board
meeting.

| Yes, under current rules, that would mean that the club's region of
residence would change. If your region of residence changes, then that
can affect how and what your club can vote on. For example, if you
live in region 5 and belong to a club in region 5 but the club secretary
moves to region 2, that club couldn't vote on anything that affects
region 5 cuz their club resides in region 2. Weird. Anyway, that is
one of the reasons why they are trying to come up with a new policy.
