4513.0. "Input requested on FeLV+ cat" by SSVAX::DALEY () Tue Apr 02 1991 14:09

I am writing this note to see if anyone else has had this problem
show up in their FeLV+ cats. I have two cats both FeLV+, Francis is
17 pounds and his disease seems to be in remission, however, I do try
to keep him away from any drafts or other situations which might not
affect a normal cat. He is not on any medication or vitamins, and has
had the disease for as long as I have had him (5 years) and prior to
    that as well.

Then there is my little P.C. who also has leukemia and herein is my
problem. About a month ago she started acting lethargic, and when
tested we found that her white blood cells were very out of balance.
She was x-rayed and no tumors were found. She also ate if encouraged.
So she went on vetalog once a day to try and regulate the cells (I
understand that there has been some good results with Vetalog) and
Amoxicillim to help her fight any infections. She seemed to be
improving, but last week she started limping on one of her front
legs. Then she started to always hold it up, not putting any weight on
    it.

Over the weekend she started hurting every time she moved - and it
seemed to be her leg. She was growling and meowing so I called the
vet at 10:30 p.m. Easter Sunday and we increased her vetalog to help
get her thru the night. Yesterday she went to the vets again, was
    x-rayed- no bone fractures, no pins or other fragments in the leg/paw;
no in-grown nails. Two vets looked at her. They said perhaps a severe
    sprain. No change in medication.

She has started eating almost everything put in front of her - which
was her usual habit prior to all this happening. But this morning
she still looks really sore. She'll hop off the bed but once on the
floor won't go far. Did she hurt her leg again?? HOw to keep her from
    jumping?

I am taking her back for another blood test on Thursday to see
if there has been any improvement. But in the meantime, has anyone
else experienced anything like these symptoms with their FeLV+ cat?
Or in a normal cat for that manner? What did you do for a sprain.
My vet advised rest. But it seems like I should be doing more for her.

I feel just terrible because I don't know if I am doing the right
thing by not putting her to sleep. But I want to give her a chance
to recover if there is any possibilty that she can do it (I know
Franny had a couple bad times where I almost lost him but he always
recovered to his ole self within two weeks. I realise one does not
get "over" leukemia, but I am wonderingif anyone else's cat was like
this - and did he/she recover?

    Thanks for your input.

    Pat

If they're sure its a sprain, could they splint it or
something so it won't hurt when she uses it?

we found today that it is not a sprain. - it is a tumor or mass of some
sort on her shoulder. At this moment her blood count is being tested
and her shoulder x-rayed, to see if it is removable. I am so
    fearful of losing her.

seditives. Nancy, will you please add her name to the Silver Lining
